Dude, I would see about getting that thing replaced with Lemon Law. I think you have to have the same problem 3 times but 2 rear ends already? My brother is an attorney and got Nissan to refund a guy who had similar issues.
The vibration at 35mph alone would be enough for me to raise some hell!

And my transmission shifts "hard". But has been checked and is "NORMAL" according to Toyota. I wouldn't know, I came from driving a 5 speed 2005 Tacoma PreRunner.

    I now have a 2007 TRD Off-Road, 4.0/V6

Other than that everything else seems to be working fine.

93,000 miles and I've had to change the spiral cable, blower motor, rear transmission seal, u-joints and center bearing. Center bearing and rear u-joint were still good when I pulled the driveshaft at 80,000 miles but I changed them anyway.

Sounds like you have a lemon. Does your state have the lemon law? If it does, you may want to invoke it.

    http://www.carlemon.com/

Lemon laws are American state laws that provide a remedy for purchasers of cars in order to compensate for cars that repeatedly fail to meet standards of quality and performance. These vehicles are called lemons. The federal lemon law (the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act) protects citizens of all states. State lemon laws vary by state and may not necessarily cover used or leased cars. The rights afforded to consumers by lemon laws may exceed the warranties expressed in purchase contracts. Lemon law is the common nickname for these laws, but each state has different names for the laws and acts.
Federal lemon laws cover anything mechanical. The federal lemon law also provides that the warranter may be obligated to pay the prevailing party's attorney in a successful lemon law suit, as do most state lemon laws

smells like lomonade truck to me. Sorry to hear you are having all sorts of problems dude, get rid of that jinxed truck. I have 100k miles on a TRD Sport prerunner 2x wheel drive; replaced battery at 70k, replaced both front bearings and front brakes at 99k and that's all-knock on wood that is...LOL. Did all the work myself and saved a bundle. Good luck man.

Sorry to read that you are having problems. Call and talk to the Toyota dealership, they will take care of it. Warranty will cover it, it happens. With my Charger I blew the motor up at 68.000 miles yep. A good ole Hemi..cost 9 grand for a new one. I ate 6 of it. Jsut be persistant that they fix it right. You might try a differrent dealership. Good Luck.

On my third rear end in 24,000 miles. What could be the problem? Is Toyota going downhill on quality? 2008 reg cab auto 4x2. Toyota says it's covered under warranty and I don't tow or drive aggressively. They say these trucks are known for bad rear ends.

    Some details??

The most likely two causes are:
    1. Improper gear set-up
    2. improper breakin

The noise/whine at around 55 mph?

Same stats as you, 08 Reg Cab 4x2 base.

I've had it since I got the truck. Toyota magically "couldn't duplicate", whatev's. It's plain as fuckin' day. Sounds like a fuel pump whine when you hit 55. It's hard to hear over the muffler and tires now anyways.

I've had it in twice for the same issue, same response each time, even took a drive with one of their techs, of course it was raining.

I as well would like to know what the actual source of the noise is. Maybe a bad ring gear, maybe a bad setup/backlash.

Three rear ends... I'd say housing but it shouldn't matter on these axles and with three rear ends I'd say you could pretty much eliminate most issues. Might just be you being picky. More info would help.

As far as you quaker... check your pinion for any play. Sometimes the crush sleeves they use can collapse and you get a bit of play which allows the pinion to move farther onto the ring gear. You get a bit of a whine.

Could also be low lube, pinion and ring gear not in correct contact(pinion too deep or too shallow), too much or too little pinion/ring gear back lash, or chipped teeth or worn/loose bearings.

Occasional noise could be loose or broken bearings or the ring gear has too much run out.

If he has lost 2 my guess is that he never broke them in and burned them up towing or something similar. It takes 1000 miles at least and the first 500 are the most critical. No breakin = no gears

I have a 2008 reg cab 4x2 auto. I currently have 25,500 miles on it. I am on my third rear differential and i think i need another. Toyota replaced my rear differential twice because of a whining noise. It just started making the noise again. What could be wrong with my truck? I am starting to hate this truck and mabey i should have bought american. The repair was covered under the warranty, but it is very time consuming to go the dealer every three months. Toyota has spent more money in repairing this truck than i paid for it!!!

Are you fucking serious? You know that Dodge (for example) is made in Mexico and Canada....

As for your truck, have you talked to Toyota Corporate about it?

Your first problem: Did you know that Tacomas are made in the USA?
Problem two: You bought a 4x2.
Problem three: Could it be how you drive?
Problem four: Put on your flame suit for saying that should have bought american.

does LA have a Lemon law? there is not really such thing as "buying american" when it comes to autos. everything is so outsourced it doesn't make a shit difference what you pick.

instead of repair, have them replace the entire rear end or truck.. lemon law is 3 of the same repair in so much time I think.

Added extra awesomeness to its original awesomeness.
So let's see here, Toyota is the leader in reliability, not to mention that Tacoma is the industry leader for "compact" trucks, and you have had the same problem with your truck, so you come on a Tacoma website and essentially say that maybe Tacomas aren't that great and you should have bought the much better alternative (Colorado, Ranger, Dakota, Frontier)? This has not been a common problem so it tells me you either got the bad one out of how many sold, or as before mentioned, maybe it is something you are doing when you drive.

Sorry if this is legit inquiry, but it just seems you are trolling.
