I'll be there to meet you all as well. Don't know TorC so well and will need a guided tour. I'll be bringing along an extra 5gl fuel can just in case. So what's everyone bringing?
Desertrock: extra fuel, "Jimmy Dean" sandwiches, a few snacks, 2 stacks of firewood, water, gatorade and shovel.
Also a tent of course!

 

Lake to the Canyon trail seems like a nice ride.

 

Channel 4 on the CB is where I'll be at.

There isn't much to torc....lol. One main street. Takes about 5 minutes from one end to the other.

 

5 gal of fuel, 5 gal of water, fire starter bricks, gas lantern - stove - heater, 2 coolers full of ice beer soda and food, camp chairs, shovel, gps, 4 radios, 2 dogs, 1 wife-like-being and a ipod full of songs yer parents like with a pinch of tool thrown in for taste.

has anyone else looked into camp sites? i just did and was suprised to see they only have 1 site available for more than 7 people. its the hot springs landing rally site next to the marina: http://newmexicostateparks.reservea....do?contractCode=NM&siteId=1572&parkId=430010, holds 100 people, 2 (yes 2) vehicles and no dogs for $90 a night.

Looks like it should be a pretty good turn out too.

 

whoever shows we all will have a great time!! A few that don't show will miss out on the adventure.

I'm working on them, but alot will be out of town or working and some have broken trucks I'm hoping pigger can make it then a few more too.

I think the 2wd will be ok, if anything some of the 4wd can pull you out. I dont think the trail has alot of difficult areas, its mainly an ExPo run rather than a hardcore rock crawling run from what I can tell. Here is some more info, difficulty rating of 1 on a scale of 1-5 (Easy; very scenic and lots of fun; most do not require continual use of 4WD; perfect for stock vehicles)

not cb's, just walkie talkies. dont know if i can pick up cb freq's with em but we will figure somethin out. good call on the flaps guys!

Trails Planned: Monticello Canyon, w/ a Possible trip to VLA, still up for discussion
Campground options: Elephant Butte Lake, and Cibola National Forest

Im sure Im missing info and some things might change so feel free to quote and make changes as needed

The walkie talkies wont pick up CB channels, but enough people prob have walkie talkies we can keep everyone in the loop.

 

i think we need to pin down the meeting time at walmart in TorC sat am as well as what day we plan to hit the canyon. you guys bein the off road rock stars that you are, ill leave it to you. im just happy you allow us 2wd AARP folk to join in.

mup flaps are off. easy peasy lemon cheesy! val, lemme know if ya want some help with yers but plan to sacrifice about 1/3 of the plastic clips.

ive got 4 motorola talkabout radios and spare batteries. i figure worst case senario i toss a cpl into the lead and sweep trucks and they can keep me, and anyone else with the same, in the loop. i normally use channel 12
