Can you buy an aftermarket hood scoop ?
If so, how much would one cost and how to install ?

I just called my toyota dealer. He quoted me 850 for a new hood (2011) with scoop and all parts to make it right. Then I called a local body shop with great rep, he quoted me 750 to paint and install. So there it is, 1600 for a scooped hood for a 2011

I always recommend securing skewps with slotted screws - they're awesome, as they shed water unlike those pool collecting rusty Phillips, Torx or Robertsons. :boink:

You do realize it is a FAKE scoop, right? It does not scoop air into the engine... just there for 'looks' and has no mechanical function.;)

It cost me 1200 to have the scoop installed on my hood and made functional. I did buy the taco hood and all the parts from the dealer and it was not painted.

A friendly warning that none of you have brought up yet... You really think it is okay to spend $1,600 on something that doesn't work???

Just making sure he doesn't expect a horsepower gain with doing such a change.

I pretty much go by the idea that form should follow function, but lots of things are done for cosmetic reasons. New grills, new wheels, larger tires. I mean honesty, if we got rid of everything that we couldn't absolutely justify, we'd all be driving gray soviet style boxes. I think the sport hood looks great. Takes me back a bit. If I like the way it looks that's all the reason I need to have one. Actually, knowing they piss people off is another valid reason :D. So there's two good reason to have a fake scoop.

So to clarify, are the scoop parts separate from the hood? Is it just a matter of blending them in with filler and painting? That's not really so hard.
