technically, the old Jets team is not related to the new. The current team has a different owner and a different history. The Jets u are referring to are the PhOENIX Coyotes who have not won a Cup. That franchise was born in league known as the WHA.

 

And the jets that are currently in Winnipeg are the Atlanta Thrashers

And the Calgary Flames are the Atlanta Flames , and the Devils are the Colorado Rockies and the Colorado Avalanche are the Quebec Nordiques and the Pheonix Coyotes that used to be the Winnipeg Jets will be the new Quebec Nordiques

 

exactly. The history of the old Jets is property of the Phoenix Coyotes. There has been chatter about the new Jets franchise trying to obtain rights to it, because they actually pay respect to it. I.E. Evander Kane was obligated to get Bobby Hull's consent before donning #9

they're also about to become the only team that hasn't made the playoffs since the lockout in 2005.

google? Right. I just happen to be of an age where I remember when the Jets moved to the NHL. There was an uproar around town because the NHL stripped the Jets of their best players. Many worldwide understood that the WHA Jets may have been the best club team on the planet at that time.

There was a previous team here by that name but they and all their past failures are now Phoenix/Quebec/Seattle's problem now.
I could care less what the Atlanta Thrashers did so I ignore any history they have brought with them. Therefore this is the Jet's first season ever.
