Loud chirpy squeal in cold or wet weather

Ever since I've had my truck, it's made a persistent loud, high-pitched squeal but only in cold or wet weather, and only when in motion. It sounds like it's coming from underneath the truck. It otherwise runs like a champ and drives very well. The sound doesn't happen when it's warm & dry at all. I'm hoping for some ideas before I take it in for next service, especially since I never know when they'll be able to reproduce the noise.

Maybe just ice/ water build up causing unwanted friction? Mine does this too it's a 2 gen but never effects how it drives. Maybe even a wheel bearing who knows that seems to be how that stuff goes makes the sound when you ant do anything and won't do it at the time you want it too maybe spray water under it and see if you can recreate ye noise

 

Could be a belt too they shrink in the cold which would make it squeal check of its cracked or worn

 

I had this same problem and it turned out to be my center carrier bearing. Get underneath your truck and push upwards on your drive shaft. If it has more play then you think it should then that is your problem.. If not that then check your U-joints and make sure all caps are sealed and solid..

He says it does it only in motion.. So that would cancel out the belts..

 

Just stumbled on this topic post. I have an 03 X-CAB 4X4 and experienced high pitch squealing every winter while the truck was in motion. Secondly, the squealing only occured when I was not touching the gas pedal. I added some grease the each of the U-joints with zerk fittings and the problem went away a day or so later. Might be something to try.

i have the same problem....high pitched chirping squealing on deceleration only in cold weather around 40 degrees outside or colder....only occasionally in wet humid weather.....had the belts pulleys checked by toyota ...all in spec they say....had another mechanic check, they said they "tightened the belts"....squeal seems even worse now.....any ideas of what to check...pleeeeease help!

 

You can also check the speedometer. Mine did the same thing for about 2 years, then when it started making the noise the spedo would just bounce from 20 to 110. I just greased the one fitting on the spedo line and it never chirped or bounced around again.

 

I just had my driveshaft (2000 PreRunner 2.7L) refurbished to solve a squealing/chirping noise I was having on deceleration. Sounded like it was dead center underneath the truck. Replaced both front and rear u-joints and the center support bearing and all is well again.

 

I had the same problem until I replaced both U-joints like ^^^^. It was quite annoying & embarassing.

 

turned out to be a "slip yoke" on the driveshaft needed greasing...apparently it was puuuuurdy dry....
