I thought the spare tire's pressure was monitored?

Today I went to have the tpms sensor taken out of my stock spare and put into a new full-size spare. Upon inspection of the oem spare I realized it has a rubber valve. Anywho I had the tire shop check anways and sure enough... no effin sensor. Toyota told me the spare was monitored. Whats going on? Also I have never even seen that light come on. I know its there from when I first start the truck. Do you even think any of them work? I know for a fact the other tires have them cause I watched the tire shop put them in.
    Thanks in advance, Zach.

weird. Maybe its a band sensor like ford?

I thought most of them had a spare sensor.

    neglect, mostly.
the spare does have a sensor. it's mounted inside the wheel though right? doesn't have anything to do with the stem. :notsure:

that's why these guys can beat the system by making pressurized containers and throwing all of them in it.

like I said, the only thing I can think of, is toyota used a band sensor for the spare, like fords do for the wheels on the car. Thats stupid.

    Yes.
Yeah. They stopped in '09, I believe. So many issues of the light coming on and freaking people out, I guess. My '08 does have it though.

Ah ok thanks guys! That information puts me at ease. I was about to go chew out Toyota about it tomorrow. I would have looked like a idiot not knowing the facts!

No they didn't really charge me. I had to get a tire mounted on a rim for a full-size spare and I told them I wanted the sensor out of the old one and put in the new spareThey charged me $15 to do all that. Damn cheap!

If it wasn't a band sensor and was monitored then the stem would be metal (the sensor is connected to the back side of the metal stem) and not rubber, but if they stopped monitoring the spare in 09 or whatever it doesn't really matter for me anways. Lol

    Thanks again guys!

Maybe ill still go and see if I can't get one on their dime. I kinda want to have the spare monitored. It would be a shame to need the spare and It be flat!

AFAIK your receiver only has "slots" for 4 sensors. So this wouldn't be possible without a new (and surely expensive) receiver.

Check your spare once or twice a year and carry a small portable air compressor and you shouldn't have to worry about it.
