There is no way that at that speed, his truck would be able to even get high enough in the air to do a 180 across (lets say 15 feet) and into oncoming traffic, not enough hangtime

I just skipped everything past the first few posts. Talk to a lawyer and get the witness's of the event to sign an affidavit of what they saw. I wouldnt let this slide at all...what if you had kids in the back or somethin

The same thing has happened to two different people that I have known personally. The first was an 80's K5 Blazer that broke the U joint at the front differential. The second was a 90's F150 that broke the front U joint on the rear driveshaft. Both drivers reported being thrown around from one lane to the next before coming to a halt. I have had a spring clip missing from a U joint on a 30K mile vehicle before. Nothing happened, I caught it before the U joint cap backed out of the yoke.

The OP's story is definitely plausible. I too would love to see pics, but I sure as hell wouldn't be running around in the road with a camera if it happened to me, and the tow truck would be taking the vehicle directly to a shop afterwards. I can see how there would be no pics available, and I wouldn't feel the need to prove myself to anyone on the interwebs either.

And to the OP: I speak only for myself, but you being a PE doesn't affect my response to your story at all. I grew tired of engineers telling me how inferior I am to them a long time ago. All too often I hear : "I'm an engineer and I don't think you've got this right." My response is always the same: "well, if you're an engineer, why did you call me? Surely you can handle this yourself! Not trying to attack you personally, but for myself and for many others that I know, someone being an engineer doesn't automatically make them an expert on whatever we might be talking about at the moment. If you're posting pictures of a fractured driveshaft yoke and you have a background in metallurgy, then okay, you being a PE is relevant to the conversation. Otherwise, for all we know you're an electrical engineer.

    Let's all play nice.:)

    Oh, and IBTL

Here is my buddies '94 Pickup that did a "180" after being tossed through the air by a Chevy Suburban.

A little more than just undercarriage damage.

at this point the op needs to drop the pics on us or receive the flames of hell lapping at his butt cheeks :)

it would lend some credibility to a rather hard to believe story so make sure they are clear and don't look like you snapped them with a potato camera. that should quiet some of the nay sayers or at least give them something to actually argue over, just saying.
