How do YOU rotate your tires?

How do you rotate your tires? Do you criss cross them or do you go straight back? For those of you who don't have a factory spare, do you rotate it in?

Another of the recommended ways is straight from the non-drive wheels, then criss-cross off of the drive wheels. IOW, front left and front right to rear left and rear right respectively, the rear right to front left and rear left to front right.

 

Agreed ^^, i have always heard that with four wheel drive vehicles, you should crisscross rear to front and take front straight back

 

front to back is just fine

 

Not always, since the drive wheels actually push the tire blocks back, the edges wear unevenly. Entirely possible that only front-to-back rotation can cause increased tire noise as they wear. This is not always the case, but it's not an outlier either.

at our shop we do front to back unless you specify you want them crossed

 

I criss cross the rears to the front. Every fourth rotation the tires wind up in the original position. Necessary? Maybe not, but why not do it?

I lift my truck on jackstands and spin the tires a little. Gotta make sure the ebrakes aren't on for the rears though! I screwed up on that part pretty bad the first time.

I thought you should cross them unless they are directional tires.

 

i wouldnt say that really. Sams club is willing to prorate any road hazard to our own tires,that includes any rapid wear due to our rotations not including alignment issues. Thats just what our shop prefers,not what i would choose for my truck.

 

we have crossed rotated directional tires before because our customer paid for that service.We actually had to dismount the tires and remount them because they were directionals.Thats what our customer requested and paid for,but im not too sure if you really should cross rotate directionals.It doesnt seem like you should.

I do mine every 5k miles.
