Are you getting bad MPG?

Here is what I have averaged the last couple of months. I have a bone stock 2011 dc 4x4 TRD sport V6 with 35lbs all around. I drive a lot. 1/2 back roads and 1/2 highway. I keep it 2k and under all the time an it has worked out well

 

mile for mile range you drive, a list of add ons of your trucks. i crap you not my truck is going to do this, i will give data when i complete this.

i have heard the 2000 rpm business, here is what i have to say.

i bought my truck from a dealer in lake havasu arizona, drove it to disney land, back to oregon. trying to never go over 70. 67 was my average. 17 mpgs

 

4x4 V6 DCSB Stock:

When I ran a 245 tire, 29 inches tall, I consistently got 21 mpgs.

I switched from the OEM intake to a TRD CAI, my started getting 18-19 mpgs.
(According to my butt dyno, the CAI, although it does give me more top end, caused me to loose low end torque, so my having to push the pedal more just to get the truck moving is eating gas)

When I upgraded to a 265 tire, 31 inches tall, I get on average 17.5 mpgs. That's where I am at now.

 

I have no aftermarket add-ons. my truck is exactly as it left the dealer. it is a short bed with the towing package if that makes a difference. My trip to work is 86 miles. 60 of them are on back roads traveling between 45 and 55mph the balance of the ride is on the highway traveling between 65 and 70. I do this 5 days a week. Saturday and Sunday the truck doesn't really leave the house.

if you drive with a full tank, less then 100 miles you get... 30+ MPGs???
i would never drive more then 100 miles then!

when you take a reading, it should be consistant.

example:

1. i fill my truck to the point that the pump shuts off by itself. (same pump, same station, same gas)

2. I drive normal, no hypermiling, etc. i drive to wherever i need to for the trip. usually 295-329 on a tank (last tank due to winter and winter gas-276)

3. i repeat for a base line, say 4 tanks- this is to average the gas mixes, terrain, driving type, and style.

i complete this mileage and see a mean mileage.

over the last 3 years over 100+ fillups (for this data) of highway trips, stop and go, mixed, etc. i have a mean mileage of 16.87543~~~~(etc.) miles per gallon

42500 ODO, 20k on 33x10.50R17s, 20k on Volant CAI, 30K magnaflow high flow muffler.



to the rest i will drive a buddies 08 that is stock (DC SB V6 Sport 4x4) for 90 miles his is an automatic so that should help. I will stay under 60 miles per hour, 25 miles will be city driving, 65 miles will be 2 lane "highway miles" (speed limit is 50 or 55) I will do this test on Friday, as it is my day off. In the 25 miles i will pull over 4 times and shut the engine off wait 5 minutes (average time to get an errand done i think) restart and go. the 65 highway miles will be a straight shot. after words i will refill the tank and take Miles driven/Gallons taken= a rough mileage per gallon.

his truck has about 56k miles on it and is kept up. It will be a very baseline test to see if a 4x4 can get 20+. that will be the test question- can a stock 08 tacoma get over 20MPGs when driven on a 75/25 split.

if we get close you win, if not you MAY be doing your mileage incorrectly/wrong.

Please state if your truck is a 4x4/PRERUNNER ,V6/I4! It makes a huge difference!!!!!

 

I've been driving pretty easy and almost all highway under 60mph and getting 20-25 mpg. Very light acceleration and lower speeds make a big difference. But I have a lot of supporting mods to help..

 

Whewre is the speed sensors in our trucks? For you people running larger then stock tires....

 

What kind of mpg are you guys getting running 35's and a re gear?

 

Im at 297.1 km.s and im just under half a tank. By now at 300 kms i would be at a quarter of a tank, before the light would come on. So driving with an egg under your fooot does work. Its hard to have the restraint from not flooring it everywhere. This has been all city driving as well

 

Half tank mark is always 230-250 for me

 

30 mpg lol. Maybe in an i4 thats a 4x2. Maybe thats still exaggerating.

 

Are those numbers corrected for the difference in tire size, or straight off the odometer? And how much fuel does it take filling up? Somewhere around 18 I would assume? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to decide if I'm going to hate myself for making the jump to 35's

 

Just calculated mine again and got 350 km out of a half tank and on the way back used 3/8 of the tank. Drive there is complete incline drive back is all down hill

 

What do you mean " calculate " ? Hit the trip meter when you fill each time , super easy

Why is this so difficult for people? Well, besides our failed public school system.

Miles per gallon means miles/gallons. Anything else is bench running!

 

Only 1300 miles, avg 19.6 mpg, mixed city and hwy.

 

3000rpm with cruise control on. thats what kinda mileage you get. clean engine, and new maf/o2's

 

I've calculated 26 mpgs before on my 4x4 DCSB. It was a tank right after I finished towing a trailer from LA to Portland, Oregon.

Idk if the computer has different fuel pressure or shift points when towing a load and just transferred that over when I was running light, but I definitely know that the calculation was correct.

 

My gas mileage is beyond shit. I average 14 mpg fairly often. This current tank might be worse. Ive not gotten better than 16.5 in a looong time. I have only a two inch lift and im running 32" Duratracs. However, Almost all of my driving has been city with pretty long idling periods. I usually let my truck warm up for a couple minutes, then Ileave it running while i run into WaWa to get coffee in the morning, then there a lot of accelerating to 60 mph and braking, and then back to 60. I know its terrible, and I know why. But I've got a honda civic that averages about 35 mpg and a bike that averages 45 mpg. So... whatever
