I have a natural gas leak in my garage, I think. The gas company is at my house now checking things out. This really sucks. Has anyone else dealt with a gas leak before?

Yup. You GTFO of the house without turning on/off any lights or using any electrical equipment or anything that could cause a spark. Call the gas company from outside. It doesn't usually take long to fix once they are notified. A leak takes priority over most other calls because of the danger of it catching fire.

Yeah we were at the neighbors house for a while waiting. When the guy got here he said he couldn't find any leaks which is strange to say the least. I think maybe the pilot light on the water heater was out and caused it to leak a little :notsure: But everything is ok for now. I've got a friend who does plumbing and hes gonna come over soon and check it out for me.

There is a rotten egg smell added to the gas. So if there is a leak you will know pretty quickly. My son made the comment that is smelled like a geyser, if you've ever been to Yellowstone you'll know what it means. I didn't smell it cause I wasn't home at the time. But my wife and son smelled it.

we have not. but my friend’s dad was doing something in their front yard with the tractor. he was tilling or something.. only going like 8” in to the ground and busted a line. they came out and fixed it and did not get charged because the line was not 16” or deeper.

    Nice.

I hope they don't charge me for coming out and not finding anything. I'm hoping that they would rather have us call "just to be safe" and find nothing than not call and get blown up.

That's what scares me. I like how cheap gas is compared to electric but the possibly getting blown up is not cool.

I called my apartment maintenance out once because when I turned my oven on my apartment was flooded with natural gas smell. It's normal to get a little whiff when you turn it on, but this was insane. They came out and couldn't find anything wrong and it never happened again. But they assured me it is always best to call. They'd rather come out at 11:00 PM for "nothing" than have the building explode. That's one case where you'd rather err on the side of caution.
