Reading through this entire thread, I was loving it until I came across these 2 pictures, then I just started shaking my head saying "NOPE" outloud. Flashback to last March, I think it's a brilliant idea to take the 2wd xrunner on a road trip to go snowboarding in Lake Placid, NY. Ended up on a road like this as night approached...low and behold...No real damage (body kit clips broke off), but lesson learned.

6 months later, I bought a 4x4 offroad. After seeing these pictures, I hope to make a trip like yours someday, the mountains look amazing.

    Wow! Over 5k views!

Mods, this may start to get off topic from 2nd Gens - feel free to move to Off-Topic...

Drove up Pillar Mountain this afternoon, actually - drove up it twice. The first time I reached the summit, I did a "Dammit, I should have brought my camera".

The blades on the wind turbines are around 180 feet long, just to give a sense of perspective. They provide roughly about 10% of the total power for the island, which is pretty substantial.

    About 10 degrees out.

I think the fact that I had about 800 pounds in the bed of the truck greatly improved my traction in 2WD. Quite a remarkable difference in in how it handles after taking everything out/camper top off...actually put 2 60 LB. sand bags in the back. Made a huge difference in traction in 2WD.

One of the biggest lessons that I learned through this trip, and yes - it sounds stupid, was to SLOW DOWN. Initially, it was hard to see vehicles pass me at 80 MPH. Let them drive fast.

Keep the pictures coming...I can't get enough of mountains. Add in pictures of the truck up there gives me some inspiration to head out west and try it myself.

Working on getting internet at my apartment - be able to upload some more pictures.

Going to be major project "balls to the wall" time on the boat. Captain just got back into town from a vacation.

    Again, everyone - Thanks!
