What to do in the event of a break-in

i still live with there parents as i am going through college right now but i have already told them that as soon as i move out, im getting a big dog and a 12 gauge for extra security. my 21st b-day present to myself is getting my Concealed Carry Licsense and will be carrying a.357 most likely at all times. of course i am going to defend my property if someone is breaking in. i was told by one of my professors that there can be some trouble if you should while the burgler is on the first floor (assuming this is a 2 story house) but as soon as they come towards the rooms (or heads up the steps) there will be no question if you shoot. they are obviously going for the more valuable stuff.

I've always been one to investigate. I usually have a blunt object within arm's length. I also sleep naked. That would probably scare someone more than your Glock, tigerfan.

 

If someone broke into my house i would come out of my room with my archary and my brother would load up his gas powered pellit gun... but i dont think anyone would get past the front door once they hear my 130 pound all female dog with a very agressive and loud and scary ass bark and see her charging at them along with my two other dogs. this kid at my brothers highschool killed an intruder by snapping his neck

 

We have an alarm system first as a start. My yard is fenced with an 8 foot tall fence and two dogs in the backyard. It's probably not easy or worth the effort to go the backyard route in my case.

That leaves the front of the house and there are only two main entry points. The garage door and front door. I have french double doors and I have a brace bar that goes under the door handle at and angle and puts an unmovable amount of pressure on the door. I've tried to break down myself and couldn't move it.

I sleep with a 9mm next to my head. Soon to be the Taurus Judge .45/410.

I want two .410 shots and the rest .45. The way I figure if someone breaks into the house I will be a little dazed and need something that spreads out. After the first two shots I should be wide awake and I can do surgery after that!

 

Trailmaster, look into the Thunder-Five if you want the .45/.410......
it wrote the book on it.
Then find someone to reload some .410 rounds for you, have them use 240 grain XTP bullets

That sucks. But man go check out the door jams I was talking about. Very cheap and there is no way someone is kicking the door down unless they drive through it.

 

As was said in the OP, I would keep the lights off. I keep a flashlight next to my bed - maybe shine it direct in his/her face to ruin their night vision then hit them with something else.

I don't have guns. Keeping a hammer by the side of the bed would probably be a good idea. You know officer, I had been doing DIY that day and it just happened to be at hand etc etc.

 

If someone were to get past Annie (and the alarm doesn't scare them off), I have a glock sitting in my room, and quaranteed they will not be going out in a vertical position.

I know my house in the dark, but I will not go investigate (too many ways for them to get behind me)... but anyone leaving a shadow in my bedroom doorway, will have an extra ventilation hole in his/her chest.

I will probably still be shaking three hours later, but the POS thug will get what's coming to him.

One of the women I work with, had her home broken into and was almost killed by three POS. I'm tired of all the thugs doing what the H*ll they want to!

 

Hey mntBiker, I dont know what kind of professor you were talking to, but I've never heard of that nonsense... Its called "defending your castle," if someone breaks into your home, you can use deadly force. The only trouble I see is if you shoot them in the back, but even then it's unlikely you will be in any kind of trouble. Not sure if this varies state by state or if its Federal, been awhile since i took a CJ class. I do know that some guy it Texas shot and killed two people who broke into his NEIGHBORS home when they were fleeing the scene OUTSIDE of the home, and he didnt do ant time. But then again, thats friggin' Texas!

 

If the burglar is DEAD he can't tell the police he told you all he wanted was your stuff. As far as I can remember officer, he came at me threatening me......

 

That sounds right, but what cop/judge in their right mind would find you at fault for defending yourself in your own home, even in CA; as pussy as this state is... I think your comment is a little over-board, either way there is now way some douche is breaking into my house and "walking out w/ my HDTV!'' All you would have to say is that you felt threatened because he had his hand in his jacket pocket, could have been a gun? Dont know, and don't really want to find out anyway; but an interesting topic none the less...
