Purchased a used Tacoma...need advice

Hey everyone! I am a proud owner of my first Tacoma. It is a 06 TRD Sport 4x4 Double cab with 140,000 miles on it. I love it and TW!

The car fax didn't give me much info on the past maintenance that was done on it but it sure looks well-kept inside and out and runs great. I am going to change the fluids in the front and rear differentials and transfer case (thanks to the great how to's on this site) and check filters and such but would like to know what else you guys would suggest doing such as tranny flush ect.

Change the following:
cabin air filter
air filter (check visually, might be ok)
oil change
front and rear differentials
transfer case

Visually inspect the following and replace if necessary:
brake pads, rotors and drums
shocks
belts
coolant

Maybe change the plugs too, if you don't know the last time they were changed anyway. Congrats on the purchase

Transmission is your call though. There are mixed opinions about changing the transmission fluid for the first time on a higher mileage transmission.

What about coolant?
Grease the zerk fittings on your U-joints.

went to toyota yesterday. they stated that they do NOT recommend transmission flushes for tacomas. just drain and fill.i had them do it becuz i didnt have the damn pump

 

$16,000 out the door. Might have been able to get them down another thousand but double cabs under twenty grand are very hard to come by in this area.

From reading posts by others, this seems to vary depending on the dealership you call. Some will flush the transmission for you, some say you never have to do anything with it, some say drain and refill. If you drain and refill, you're only changing out like 3 - 4 quarts of fluid and I think the automatic takes something like 15 or 18 quarts (if I'm remembering correctly).

 

oh, ok. when i went to the stealership i was teaching my 13 year old little brother how to conduct an oil change and he pulled the wrong plug( i know, i know right) i nitced the nice bright red fluid and suffed my finger in the hole just in time, only lost about a quart. Drove to stealership. i told them please dont flush. they said. service manager 'WE do NOT reccommend that'

just my experiance... didnt know there was that many quarts in it though. thanks for the homework. Much Appreciated
