Gonna be about 600 to 700 dollars for gas each way. Plus food, gas to wheel, and other incidentals. Probably a couple hotel rooms during the drive each way as well.

I'd estimate you need at least a $2000 budget to make the trip work. Tempting, but I'd rather spend 2 grand on truck mods. There's a shit ton of good wheeling within a 10 hour radius of where I am.

    Edit:

Also, in the event of major breakage you're stuck in Utah. I'm always wary of going more than a days drive distance without a trailer for this reason.

I was out west three times over the past two years (Wyoming [Wind River Mtns] July '10, California [Tuolumne Meadows] Sept '10, California [Yosemite] June '11) for climbing trips. They were all awesome trips, but I need a travel break for a year.

It most certainly is going to be cheap you're right about that. Tax return plus not having credit card bills, rent, etc is going to make the trip a little easier. It is gonna be a tight squeeze but I figure this is as good a chance as any to go out there.

I'm gonna throw this out there

I have a 1982 Coleman pop-up camper that will need at the minimum new canvas, mattresses, gas/water lines, tires and wheel bearings sitting on my land that we havent used in upwards of 10 years

    I want it gone

Will has first dibs but if you want it and he says no...make me an offer, bring a flat bed to Lexington, SC and come get the thing

we can shoot guns while you come pick it up if youd like

Western NC got hit pretty good. Guys at work last night said a tornado hit in Murphy and it messed up some stores. Just a bunch of hail, wind and lightning where I live though. Hope everyone else had a safe night.

Right now, I'm planning on leaving on the 11th and wheeling for the week. Coming home on the 21st.

That's not a bad idea either. I don't know my way around there obviously but maximizing wheeling time for such a long drive would be good. I might follow you out there on the 11th. You bringing the wife and kiddies along too I am assuming?

The wife only is gonna be making the trip. Kids will stay home, too long of a drive for them to survive. As it stands we will be leaving about 5pm on the 11th and convoying with Lurry and his Fiance. We are planning to drive nonstop and switch out drivers.

Looking at the directions for us and you we would have to meet up along the way. Probably around the Missouri line when you would be getting onto I-70W. I'm sure it is something that we can discuss more the closer it gets.
