Havent updated this thread in a while...heres a little bit of something from last week!

Went out with the local FJ Cruiser Club here in OZ....gee they ended up being a conservative lot...not willing to give much challenging things a shot. I had to show them how it's done in the hilux.....sorry, not much rock-crawling here in OZ for you rockcrawling fans.

Went offroading to Cobaw State Forest the other weekend.... was a good day out...some great rocky terrain to be had there but not all the vehicles with us were up to the challenge of the harder tracks.
Heres the obligatory before pic....an FJ 40 on 35's joined us later on -
    2012-02-12110557_a0ca4629389bae7ca20c177367faa433e93aa879.jpg
Anyway, heres a couple vids to summarise the day....
1st obstacle of the day was a rutted section of track....big wash out to the left that a JK Jeep came unstuck on -
My lux crawlin up it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC0k...xt=C3eefd40UDOEgsToPDskL-sTgykoBoFCP0fcy6ZfnN
Heres the Jeep attempting that first rut - http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=jeep-1st-rut.mp4

The day was mixed with a variety of rutted tracks, most of the guys just wanted to play in the mud which Im totally over....
Later in the day I led the guys up a harder rocky track. Proved to be quite the challenge. There was a steep segment between a tree with exposed roots and a big boulder we made our way up -
Heres a vid of George crawling up between the boulder and the tree.....the tree had exposed roots that caused a few problems, having the boulder on the left didnt help either or the off camber situation itself.
    http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0523.mp4
Heres me towing Rocky in his non locked torsion bar'd Hilux up as he couldnt get traction anywhere not too mention these things dont flex at all -
    http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0522.mp4
Heres me crawling up the same section of track -
    http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=maxrockytrack2.mp4
Once we got to the top I realised the track was a dead end....BUMMER! We had do now go back down this challenging bit.....gee what an experience....
Heres me guiding George down -
    2012-02-12170501_e846541b78c808a628a60daddb0b41646c9705c3.jpg
Heres a vid from below of George driving his hilux down on 3 wheels -
    http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0524.mp4
The very off camber nature of that segment meant you couldnt steer left too hard around the tree as the more left steer you put on the higher the RHR would go.
So we had to drive straight into the opposite embankment to lower the rhr before we could begin to turn which was another problem as all the weight of the vehicle was on the RHF now making steering difficult.
George coming down from top view......needless to say I had to jump my fat arse on the rear end to stop it going over.....
    2012-02-12170652_b0e33fff0cbc8faade71c6d51f621ab2539d1d81.jpg
My arse obviously wasnt enough as it kept lifting requiring another fat arsed gentlement to hop on too -
    2012-02-12170708_8d671c3bfc7963606b9b4d0a357684dadfcb63f7.jpg
Next down was Rocky in his 98 torsioned barred single cab....it was his first time doing anything like this plus his brakes werent the best, his rear end being very light I thought it safer if I strap the RHR corner of his tray to the front recovery hook of my hilux and I held him back in compound low range-
    http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0526.mp4
Once he got through that hard bit, I detached the strap to stop any chance of him accidently pulling me over as I went down......
    http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/mmaaxx1977/Cobaw-Feb12/?action=view&current=IMG_0527.mp4
Thought Id end this report with a couple mud bogging vids from some of the boys that were there -

So back to my build thread - Yesterday I ordered a set of 4.5 : 1 crown and pinion gears with solid pinion spacers for my hilux from the USA. Am hoping after Tuff Truck to get these fitted. After that I'll be saving up for a set of 35'ish tyres (these diff gears will bring perforance and gearing back to stock on 35's - plus my Crawl ratio will increase from 125:1 in compound low to about 155:1) and cutting the front fenders to suit....depending on how much I cut the front fenders I may even try to go a bigger tyre for offroad use only which will have to be on a wider offset rim, this will require strengthening the steering knuckle to suit aswell as upgraded tie rod ends which are available from contacts stateside.
Am trying to break new ground in IFS 4x4's with this truck. I should have a set of remote reservoir coilovers coming in soon to test for Monster Rides aswell. These will be 2,3 and 4 way adjustable and will be ready for market after TUFF TRUCK -
    171220111_5284ad576637fe393708de5aa0c0ff0b129cc890.jpg
Heres a couple of pics to show it can be done on Monster Ride's Test Vehicle -
In pic below hilux is still on standard suspension, front fenders and body mount have been trimmed and tyres (315/75x16 MTZ's on -20 offset 16x8's) almost clear everywhere on full compression and steering lock-

    VaderStockSuspensionand35s_d9fb3168cbac7311bf887571a5255b08a3084984.jpg
    Pics of Fender trimming -
    HiluxBodyMountsD_33e4bdb4ac070c2cd4b1df8cbc3633e4a9739403.jpg
This vehicle will be on display at Tuff Truck at the Monster Rides Vendor Stand along side mine.
It will have all going well by then -
    -3" Monster Rides Suspension Kit
    -Comp Style Rear Tray
-Tube doors on all four doors
-Painted a matte black colour all over
    -front bar
    -rocksliders
Theres alot of future plans for this Hilux....Im trying to get Matty from Monster Rides to set it up for a new Ultra4 Racing styled race series thats going to start up here in OZ soon. I'm also wanting to set my own hilux up for this race series....I beleive I'll need another year to get the couple extra bits required.....
-35+ tyres, better brakes, comp tray........etc
The new series will begin with road registered wheelers, winch comp styled offroad racers and an Open class featuring dedicated Buggies.....it should get some good numbers......

Thats it for now...hope you guys enjoyed the update?

There heaps of hunting to be had here in Australia.....

As long as your prepared to drive 1-1.5 days from main suburban areas to the start of remote regions for hunting or relocating to live in remote areas....and I mean...REMOTE!!!!

There shitloads of pigs up across the entire north of Australia....towards the south theres always foxes, feral goats/cats/dogs and rabbits.

The Australian army was at one time, not sure if they still are....were looking for prior military service members to fill there ranks. They would offer citizenship, when I get out....and if its still going, I'm gonna have to do that. Gonna be a Yank livin among Ausies :)

Couple Poser pics from yesterdays trip - Didnt get many as was driving ....

    Update Time

    1) Bought a set of second hand 35" tyres....2 Maxxis Bighorns and 2 claws in 315/75x16. Have also bought a set of of second hand landcruiser 80 series steel wheel, 16x8 zero offset (4.5" backspace)

Ill be using these as templates to fit to the hilux and see what and where I have to cut and trim to get them to work.

Once that has been done, Ill remove the tyres and sell them as spares, and will beadlock the wheels meself and paint them all black including the bolts to disguise them from the law.

Then new 35" tyres of some decription.

    2) New front tube bar that we will be selling (Monster Rides) is within 2 weeks of being complete and fitted to my hilux. Airbag compliant aswell which is a big plus and not only will it look better than my current one it will also have offroad clearance gains where it is needed.

    3) Longer top leaves and custom leafpack are about 2 or 3 weeks away Ive been told, ETA keep moving. extra long travel rear shocks are already here which should give extra 3 to 4 " of downtravel matched with the custom leaves and longer rear shackle.

    4) swaybar and detachable swaybar links are going to go, Im sick of them and will remake the front skid plate for even more clearance.

    5) New 2 way adjustable front coilover will be going in for me to trial out in not too distant future.

Thats about it for now...will update further as I get stuck into the next round of mod's.

Thanks for reminding me to update this thread. Havent done so in ages.

I have fitted 17x8 Alloy wheels from a GU Nissan Patrol (+10 offset) and 35/12.5x17 Maxxis Bighorns. Also removed the bed and fitted a custom steel flatbed. Rear bed fenders are removable aswell.

I out the spare on the back for a little more weight at the back.
Between the top of the tyre and the underside of the tray frame i can "just" fit my fingers. At the same point the progressive rear bumpstops are starting to work and the rear leaves are starting to invert.
