Also, the video I posted was for the Standard G2. They didn't have a video for the Fibermax, they're pretty close in terms of installation.

 

I meant to quote you before, but you can see from my pictures what the corner looks like. It's hard to tell but when I look really close it's actually double sealed. The overlap is more than enough, especially considering all the weather I've been in lately.

 

The arms and apparatus for the arms on the new Fibermax seem super sturdy to me. I drive down the Interstate with no problem.

 

Ya man, it really is the silver built. The Fibermax and the Flex from my experience seemed to be equally rugged, but the Fibermax is a better price.

The Fibermax is super easy to take off. I pack it up every night and take it into my condo on the third floor till I get my pop n lock installed.

I'm not sure if they were referring to a G1, but the Fibermax arms are really sturdy.

 

Hey zham61, did you have to drill out the bed drain holes in order to get the drain tubes to fit? Thanks

 

my 2012 bakflip fibermax for 04 dc tacoma. i bought a flip back type model b/c it doesn't take up storage space the way a roll back cannister must.

purchase and research: Grade B-
the info-commercial videos and bak website are more annoying than helpful purchase guides. can't buy direct. many retailers don't carry it, order online or through group buy is best. i paid $710 all-in with shipping included.

delivery: Grade A
mine arrived today about a week earlier than expected and by fedex ground. the item was packaged very nicely. they are made in socal and i live in norcal, so that helped shipping timeline for sure.

instructions/installation: Grade C
and my cousin helped me install it tonight. the instructions are basically useless and written by a total fool (or lazy person). the photograph is weak and mis-directed (great photo of a guy's hand but not the rail clamp). that said, it isn't too hard to figure out. we had an ipad running all the install videos continuously to cheat. as an example, even ikea always show you the stacking order of small parts. star nob, washer, spacer, etc.

initial impression: Grade B+
complaint - the rubber barrier along the edges is mis-shaped at the hinge locations and will probably let water intrude. it doesn't lay flat like rest of rubber.
praise - aside from the above comment is seems pretty sturdy and thoughtfully constructed.

a few comments about this guy's comments as follows:

#2 Put the seal on the front of the truck bed first (see the Youtube video below, I didn't find this till after I installed it.)
- this only matters if you do not have a bed liner.


# (#4 implied due to typo) Make sure when you're tightening your bed rails down you pay attention to where the seal is stopping. I noticed there is a little clearance and give as to where you tighten the bed rails (vertically). Make sure the seals aren't positioned over the textures where they might leak.
- what i think he is saying that as you tighten the clamps to the rails be sure the rail stays in place. as you tighten one clamp the otherside of the rail farther away from you might move and lose it's alignment along bedrail (read create a gap and not seal). this can be avoided by getting all 3 clips in place hand tight and then tightening them all down later - especially if you are installing by yourself. the instructions give no mention of idea clamp spacing, but it can be implied from the videos.

 

But when it's folded up it still takes up some space right? Can't be that much less space than a roll back can it? Width wise would think it's about the same, depth the roll back would take a few inches more or am I missing something?

I have a Toyota Bed Mat, so I just ran them under that. I didn't even look for draining options, haha

 

From what I saw compared to my buddy's rollback, the Bakflip Fibermax gives you A LOT more room than the rollback. I actually considered the rollback. Plus, at least with my buddy's rollback, it sits lower in the bed, so he has less total storage than I do.

Locking is the reason I haven't decided on a cover yet. Read on here that regardless of pop n lock, a hangar and a few seconds will have anyone inside. Doesn't seem secure for my stuff or the cover itself.

 

nothing is ever really secure. i could break into your truck with a coat hanger. but a pop n lock and a good hard cover will absolutely stop someone from just looking in your bed and taking your shit. all your doing is making your self a harder target thats all

 

Very happy with my G2. Not leaky at all. Only problem I had was that one of the little swivel sockets arrived broken. Emailed them with a pic, and they sent a replacement kit with two new rods and swivels right away. Seemed like great service to me.

 

Ditto on the G2, I love mine.
