I about messed up today

Well today i was clearing out the fence line try to do some work for my dad so he will help pay my insurance. I was out there by myself cutting limbs and whatnot. i somehow but the chainsaw up against my leg after i got done cutting a tree down, and it grabbed my jeans ripped them and cut my leg alittle. All i can say someone was looking over me today.

 

Yes indeed. I always know where the saw blade is, running or not. Way to easy to mangle yourself with a chainsaw

 

One of my old football coaches had a gnarly scar from gracing he leg with a chainsaw! Glad it only got your jeans!

Someone was. This is just a wake up call to always be aware. It could have VERY easily ended up in a complete amputation.

 

Glad you are OK! I cut and split lots of my firewood, and am lazy, but unless I put the saw down for a longer time and turn it off, for just a short time, I automatically knock the chain brake on, takes just a second as you know to get bit. Take care

 

my dad cut his leg one day while he was at work, cutting a tree that had fallen in the road...Wasnt bad, but still pretty nasty seeing what they can do.

 

You should always wear chaps when using the saw

 

I have never done this before and usually im making sure where it is, but i guess i got too carried away pushing on the small tree to get it to fall the other way.

 

DUDE, I so did that the other year. Cut right through my jeans, thermals, and underwear and didnt leave a scratch on me luckily. I had been out there cutting for 7 hours in the snow but that was a serious wake-up moment for me. Glad your unharmed man, be safer next time. I know I am.

 

I did this exact same thing....but it got my leg. I did this a week prior to leaving to go to Florida on vacation... Luckily all I did was slice through the scin on top of my knee cap and I didn't hit any bone so I was lucky

Yup you really need to be extremely aware of your body and all of its parts to be behind the bladeguard no matter what. This goes for even hedge trimmers. Those will take fingers off like nothing. I am glad you got away ok

While not nearly as serious, I did something similar recently, I knicked my leg with my grinder cutting some metal. My cell phone ended up saving me from cutting my leg. Later that day I noticed a knick in the cover on my phone. It was in my pocket.

 

Damn dude. Luuuuuucky. Go buy a lottery ticket quick!

yeah they are like 12 layers or more thick. the expensive ones are made with du-pont kevlar.

 

Glad you are OK. You are lucky that you didn't sustain a serious injury and fortunate to have learned a valuable lesson at a young age.

Please invest in some proper gear before you go out cutting again. I used to teach natural resources technology in a logging state; there you would never see a professional logger working without safety gear. Even with the proper gear, running a chainsaw is a very dangerous task.

 

Someone beat me to the chainsaw chaps! My dad did forest landscaping, do he was out by himself in the woods working with a chainsaw, axe, etc. daily. He never bothered with any safety equipment until he had a scare similar to the OP. Ever since then it doesn't matter if he's cutting one limb, he wears boots, chaps, gloves, eye protection, etc. OP, glad you only got a scare, could have been so much worse.
