So I bought a CPO 2008 trd 4x4 dc tacoma down in Temecula (southern california) back in december. Had been looking for a few months because my "list" of everything i wanted on my truck was pretty detailed. Fell in love with the truck and ended up buying it. But the reason i was down there was for a holiday family get together, so one of my biggest concerns was servicing because i live up in the sacramento area. i had only test driven the truck at night, so it was not until started driving back up to northern california that i noticed my alignment was off. the truck pulled to the right pretty significantly. of course didnt notice until i was past LA or about 3 hours away from the dealership (bumper to bumper traffic in LA of course...) so i called the dealership a few days later, talked to the sails man that i had dealt with and asked what they were going to do about it. he said he would talk to his manager and call me back the next day.
As well, they only provided me with one key, and considering a new "chipped" key is around $150 i was pretty upset because they said i could go to ace and pick one up for like 5 bucks.
well to cut this story short they didnt call me back, so i called them. Then they said they would talk to their boss. never called me back. This happened about 2 more times of they reassuring me they would call me back, then hanging me out to try.
So i called them back, AGAIN, and went straight to the top. As soon as the head manager was on the phone, i went off like a f*cking cannon.
he tried to say that it was hard to deal with because i was so far away, and that if i was closer they would just take care of the truck and get me a new key. I responded telling him that they had violated a contract because in the 160 CPO check list, it says the truck will drive straight on a flat straight road. And i told them i though that they were blowing me off because im just a college kid and thought if they ignored me i would just go away. I quickly told him, quite colorfully, that if they though i was going to leave, they were in for a surprise.
in the end they are going to reimburse me for and alignment and ship me a blank chipped key (not programmed or cut but at least i dont have to buy an expensive key).
do you guys think i was out of bounds? i hate getting into my pissed off mode but i felt like nothing was going to get done unless i did.

btw, i would NOT recommend going to toyota of temecula.
even if i did overreact, they were assholes about the entire thing and not pleasant to deal with, at least until you start yelling.

ps. sorry, this is more of a rant, but i would still love to hear some of your opinions.

    UPDATE:
So i finally got it all figured out. Took me about 16 hours of calling times, email writing, and general yelling, and then research on california state law.
Finally got the alignment done and found out that my truck was 1.5 degrees off, which is A LOT. Mechanic thought my frame was bent cause it was so bad. thats when i got pissed again.
Finally talked to the head of Toyota of Temecula and it took about a three minute non stop monologue on the phone including reciting a call record, contract violations, and a list of the laws they broke, ending with the threat of taking them to court and suing them to get it done. Once i talked to the head of the dealership and the head of the service department, my truck was on a frame machine the next day, and finally they figured out the control arms were off by 8mm. wasnt the actual control arms but the knuckles that were screwed up. $1500 job.
But long story short, im not paying a penny, and they got it done. And i finally get to pick up my truck today!

Their laziness was met with stead fast frustration. IMO there's nothing wrong with going off the wall if it is truly deserved.

Sounds like a bad experience, BUT it seems they are fixing it which is better than some dealers do.

The chipped key is the cheap part, having the dealer program it is the expensive part.

welcome to the club bro..... for every good toyota dealership, there are 13 shitty ones.... ive gone the rounds with my local dealership about front end vibration, and then they tried to charge me this and that for something that was covered under warranty. I explicitly parted ways with them, and went to a different one an hour and a half drive further south, and was treated like gold. I was even given a rental scion to drive, and compensated for fuel.... i will gladly drive 1 1/2 hours to be treated fair, than 3 minutes to my local one.

Your in the right. As for your key issue,to pass for certification the vehicle must have number of keys the vehicle originaly came with.I have to say that flying off the handle is not the best way to go about it,but most times you have to do it most gm's are jagoffs

Temecula you say?! Were these the people you dealt with?

Sorry, watched this the other day and couldn't resist.

Sucks you had to get worked up to get something done, but unfortunately that's what it takes sometimes. Hopefully this will all get resolved to your satisfaction. Good luck man!

They shouldve just let you go to a dealer near you.. I just bought a CPO 2008 trd off road dbl cab from a dealer near me and they were great about getting anything done, I had an issue with battery light coming on but everything tested ok. They did everything I suggested a couple times and couldn't duplicate it, finally I told them to go to a car wash which they did and got the light to come on. They had a new alternator in under an hour and even filled my tank with gas. But anyways, my warranty is goo no matter what dealership I go to, there are 2 good ones near me and 1 shitty one so I mix it up between the two for services and stuff and everything is covered the same at each location. You should have just taken it to a dealer near you and got an alignment and key, they can see in the computer that you just bought it and shouldn't give you a had time about that... At least thats been my experience.

Ya the problem was the alignment wasnt covered under the CPO... at least thats what they said once i finally got a straight answer out of them. and yes i would muuuuch rather drive an hour and a half to get great customer service than the one in town. Thanks for your support everyone!

I would have called right away (at the nearest stop on your way back home) and let him know that you will be taking it to such and such dealer (near your home) and that he can call them to have the key ready and to charge the LA dealer for it. They have your VIN number and could have faxed the information to your home town dealer and it could have been taken care of right then and there.

If the alignment was on their list of 131 point (or how ever many) inspections then it should be covered IF you called them right away. Because you waited a few days they can say that YOU knocked into something causing the alignment to go out.

Other than that, I'd say you handled it accordingly.
