When I bought my truck they did not have a manual V6 on the lot. I would have loved to driven it. I'm sure I would have still got the auto, but it would have been fun to compare.
Do you even use first gear on the manual or is it like a granny gear?

I use it every day. You really can't downshift into it though until after the truck has stopped or you are going 5mph or less.

Yea, you have pretty much got to be stopped before you shift into it. From what I've experienced, it's excellent in the snow and mud though.

Or hill starts or towing or with a lot weight in the bed. :D If I can keep the wheels rolling even just a little I usually leave it in 2nd at stops. Sometimes even 3rd.

 Dude, manual ALL the way. I just bought my first ever brand new vehicle on Feb 28th and I have been waiting for it for about 10 years now and the wait was well worth it! A 2009 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab MT in ssm. It is just the baseline model but that it all I wanted.

Manual. Not really any trouble in traffic and gives me something to do while I'm driving. I feel like I'm more intimate w/ the car when I'm shifting :D

In my opinion if you only use the car for go to work or only freeway take manual .
If you drive off road or you like or have place for run manual ........Is better.

Just picked up my '09 Tacoma yesterday and it HAD to be the 6-speed. I wouldn't have bought it any other way. My old '86 Pickup was an auto but my '02 Protege5 is 5-speed. I just like driving manual transmissions more and I've been stuck in the worst traffic - just doesn't bother me. It certainly been fun getting used to the clutch on the Tacoma though. The fiance' is just going to have to learn...

    +1

My fiance's brothers both strictly drive stick and they've always said you "point" an automatic. There's just something fun about rowing through the gears with a manual gearbox. When I got my Tacoma it what a decent toss-up between the Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier. At the time I was looking at the TRD Off-road Tacoma and the Pro-4X Frontier. The fiance' liked the Frontier better but they couldn't get me a 6-speed from ANYWHERE in the U.S.! Decided on the Tacoma, determined I didn't need the TRD and went with the SR5. So I got my 6-speed and saved some money in the process :)
