I have a 06 Tacoma Access Cab. I finally installed my old car seat in the back but i had to disassemble the car seat to do it. The issue is the top anchor strap has a release button thing.(Not sure what it's called) Well it is too big to fit through the upper anchor bracket on the truck.

So I bought a new one recently a Safety 1st that has a smaller buckle. It's the smallest one i could find. It's still a no go. What the hell are us Access Cab owners suppose to do to get a car seat n the back facing forward?

How are you other members with access cabs installing a forward facing car seat in the back? Is their another brand that will fit? Evenflo and Graco are both a no go. The Safety 1st is closer but still not small enough. Is their a larger updated upper loop available for the truck?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use a small carabiner for rock climbing to clip the strap thru on the Graco conversion seat we are using now.
My sons Britax Marathon fit back there and the clip ran thru the anchor point- but once he started getting bigger his legs were stuffed in too much.

The one I have now looks similar and I use the carabiner to route the strap.

Toyota should be forced to recall this and provide a updated loop that will actually work. This is a serious safety concern in my opinion. A child's car seat must have been a after thought that they didn't put much thought into at all.

We use a Britax Marathon for out little guy, 1.5 yrs now. He sits behind me, I end up one or two clicks father up than when I am solo and all the way back. Out of the 4 or 5 we have had this one by far gives us the most room.

My 3.5 year old uses a Graco nautilus, shown in the first pic, it turns into pure booster when we need it. I picked this one up specifically because it's skinny front to back and fit well.

Both of these pics show actual sitting position of my wife and I. I'm 6'1"ish, my wife is 5"8"

I've put a car seat in plenty of times in the back. The 05 has a removable plastic cover by the rear window. I take that off. Snake the seat belt through the car seat. (Usually in through the back or back and lap). Attach the top hook which looks like the one posted and tighten everything down. Has worked just fine with no problem and the kid is strapped in tight.

Forgot to mention, in the 09+ you really almost have to do the rear headrest removal to get any room. The headrests are huge and force the seat into a very weird angle. Taken out, tons of room.

05sctaco, Yeah the upper loop on the back wall by the window is my issue. It's just too little for the piece that says lift in my photo to go through it like the toyota owners manual says. I went all over town looking for the smallest one i could find.

I'm going to get you guys some photos together tomorrow so you can see what i mean.

Does the 09 model have the same anchor set up as the 05 models?

I don't know about the anchors, but the jump seats are completely different and look like they would work really well for car seats, unlike the 05-08 design.

This is the upper loop on my 06 that i'm having trouble with. I can't find any car seats with a strap that will actually fit through it. The only way i can get it to work is take the tether out of the car seat and feed it through in reverse order. Whoever came up with this set up i would like to know who they are so i can kick them in the balls.

I know this is an old thread, but I ran into this problem this weekend and wanted to post a reply for anyone else that comes across this. Hope I can save someone a headache.

I have an 05', I managed to install a Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 front facing in the back of my truck, however the top LATCH strap would not initially fit through the top anchor as previously shown by the OP. I had to disconnect the strap from the car seat (very easy to do, once you see how the strap is connected to the car seat you can easily figure out how to disconnect and reconnect it), and lace the strap in reverse, from the second anchor, to the top anchor, and back to the car seat. Worked well, and as long as you reattach the top anchor strap back to the car seat correctly, I believe the integrity of system is uncompromised. Based on the two other car seats I have, I think this method would work for any Graco, not sure about any other brands.

Because there isn't any padding on the folded down rear seats, I found that it was nearly impossible to get the bottom strap tight enough to prevent me from moving the car seat around. I took an old foam sleeping pad (used for camping), and cut it into three sections, put the three layers under the car seat to provide some padding, and was able to push the car seat into the padding and tighten up the bottom strap so that the car seat wouldn't move. Car seat feels pretty solid at this point.

Wife's car seat took all of a minute to install in her car, mine took an extra 20 minutes trying to figure out this additional stuff. Hope I can save someone else some time.

my car seat goes in there the same way luke's did. I have an 05 access cab. The only difference is that I open the bottom seat portion on the truck. It just gives you more of a flat suface for the car seat to sit rather than having it hang off the front. if anyone wants a pick let me know.

This is a pretty old thread. I use to use the trick on my older car seat with back tracking the tether so it'll actually fit through the tether router... NOW I got a new Diono and its so strong and amazing... I can't do that anymore. It won't detach and the tether won't fit through the router... Any help would be great... Maybe I"ll have to put the car seat in the front seat now..? Help!
