I installed my cobra 18 into the dash and hooked up a 4 ft firestik, and it was the most painstaking install I have ever done. It took 3 install attempts, about 9 hours over 3 days to trim and test fit and re-trim the piece of shit aftermarket plastic radio bracket and also wire, install and tune the antenna. But that was easy. But finally its in.

the antenna is mounted to the bed rail and the power wires are tapped into the radio and cig lighter fuses.

Changed the oil and filter, rotated dem tahrs.

BTW, I like to remove the stocks skids when I do an oil change and get the filter from underneath, and it is also just a good time to inspect in general.

I know some folks think taking the skids off and putting them back on is a pain. But I think I figured out the easiest way yet.

As some have already pointed out, leave the skids bolted together in the middle. Less fuss. But holding and aligning for install can still be a bit of a pain.

First, loosen the two rearmost bolts, but leave them in.

Next, on your creeper, go under feet-first so your whole body is under the skids. (Assumes truck wheels on ground, no jacking, and you have enough clearance because your beer gut is not too big :homer:)

Take out all three front bolts. The front of the skid will hang by two hooks in the cross piece. If it doesn't seem secure, leave the front middle bolt in loosely.

Roll under a little more with your knees under the rear skid, and reach down along either side of your body and remove the bolts with your fingers. You can push your knees against the skid to relieve pressure.

Begin rolling back out from under the truck, letting the rear of the skid down, and then you can unhook the front of the skid and rest the whole assembly on your body. Roll out and put it aside.

Install is reverse of course, but the nice part is you can install the front middle bolt loosely so it acts as a secure pivot for the rest of alignment. Then you can use your knees and hands to shift the whole skidplate assembly side-to- side and push it flush against the frame as needed to start the two rearmost bolts first. After than, run all the bolts down.

I used duplicolor bumper coating. Love the way it looks. I think I'm going to do the fender flares with it too.

Color matched my grill. I ordered the paint from Automotive Touchup and it's top notch as far as matching my original paint. A couple before and afters. Also specked my badges. The "delete all chrome bug" has hit me all at once =)
