This would in my opinion be excellent for those who don't quite need a snorkel but who have opened their intake to debris (either by removing the liners or fiberglass flares) and need a way to keep shit out of the air box. Anything that flys into the intake hopefully would find its way out via this. The rest should be trapped by the little collector thing on the intake tubing, the air box housing, and then the filter. Should work well, as long as you keep out of deep water.

IDK about the rest of you but I like to clean the shit out of my door seals with some meguirs protectant and also where the seals meet the body. I figure less dirt, less chance of water seeping through.

I need to go through and apply silicone to the bottom of the truck, where there are the rubber plugs, and then dielectric grease in some strategic areas. Gonna see what I can do with the solenoid on the starter motor.

Also, I've sealed off my snorkel with the truck running and found the truck sucks air at the filter, and enough to stay running, no problems anywhere else. Not sure what to do about that. I check the rubber gasket on the filter regularly. Nothing seems abnormal.

If you haven't figured out already. I wouldn't use dryer duct. A little weak, aside from the problem of turbulence.

My solution, as mine pointed down as well, was galvanized furnace piping, not the best and I'm working on something else, but it's sealed up wonderfully with RTV and duct tape. Anyhow I wouldn't try dryer duct though.

That engine bay is heinous for a 2010. It needs a steam cleaning.

Cut out of Nevada placed over a cut in the air box and sealed so I can check my air filter easier (my concern is dick heads putting shit in my snorkel).

Probably could have done something without the rivets but ah well, live and learn.

Yea max thats a great idea. I would like to do something similar. Maybe just a longer rectangle to be able to see a larger amount of the filter. I'd be interested in hearing how the visibility is after driving in dusty conditions too

put a windshield wiper on the inside :D

I has plenty of lexan and polycarbonate at work. Ill grab some and mess around. If you want some ill keep it handy. maybe do a circle and route out a grove for a o ring seal or just do a needle bead of RTV on the perimeter. hmmmm

My rivets ended up running into the filter on one side. I kinda had to trim em down. If you do something like I did, keep in mind the distance the filter pokes into the box.

and yeah I mounted it backwards :frusty:

I grabbed some Polycarb from work on Friday. I'm going to mess around today and see what I come up with. I won't be using rivets cause I don't have any long enough and just in case I need to remove the window later I won't have to drill them out. I'm thinking a gasket and 4 small machine screws countersunk flush. Time will tell...I'm sure Ill mess it up at first then come up with a fix.

So I hit some deep stuff that was over my passenger side bumper and 1/2 way up the headlight yesterday and this is what I found today when I removed my intake for the "Max window" mod

Be sure to fill up ALL the holes in the intake because all that crud was from this little guy I forgot to seal up

Thanks for the tip on the filter depth. I took dimensions of the filter and transferred them so I didn't hit it.

If I did it again it would be much nicer - I was stuck with hand tools for the hole. I also had to offset the screws because I had nothing to chip the rear fins down with so my screws are in between them. Blew my dremmel out cutting someones rear quarter panels for a high clearance bumper :(

    Joe :D
