A Rubbing Issue...

    Here is my situation.

    I have an '01 Tacoma TRD with Toytech Coil-overs and rear AAL's.

    I recently swapped the tires from 285/75-16's to 265/75-16's in an effort to stop some rubbing on the inside fender well, the black liner piece.

    I also adjusted the coils to give me about 2" of lift (down from 3", it was just too stiff for my liking). Both sets of tires have been on "Wheeler's Offroad" 16x8 steelies. The wheels have 4.5" back spacing.

    Even after swapping to the smaller tires, I continue to have rubbing issues, in the same spot.

    I suppose I could lift the coils again, but then I'll hate the ride.

    Do you guys think its a tire or wheel problem? Or a combination of both?
    I can get OEM wheels for $150, or OEM wheels & tires for $300.

    Not really sure which way to go. Any advice/opinions are greatly appreciated.

    Not sure if the design changed on the 05+, but on the 1st gens there is a little "hump" on the fender well "liner" or whatever its called. Kind of where the middle bolt goes to hold the mud flap on. Yes, I removed the flaps, still rubs.

    Not really my first choice of surgeries.

    I may be trying to sell it very soon.

    its better than cutting

    you have to trim very little of the fender liner...but the "pinch weld mod" is a very well known and much used mod...its almost necessary to run anything other than stock size tires

    doubtful if it is indeed the pinch weld (which i think it is) causing the rubbing

    he'd have to reduce tire size or space the wheels out to the point the tire is almost completely outside of the fender well

    Thats exactly where its rubbing. Not very deep, just lightly (but noticeable) on the "hump" part.
    I was trying to keep it "stock" looking and not have to cut/trim this part.

    The initial question being; is it the slightly larger tires, or the offset of the wheels that could be causing the rubbing? One of them has to go.

    Seem like with a 2" lift it shouldn't be the tires?

    it is probably the size of the tires...like i said in an earlier post spacers would have to be wide enough to push the tire almost out of the fender well completely...

    im surprised youre getting this issue with 2" lift and 265/75 tires...i ran thru 2 sets in that size and never touched mine...stock or with a spacer...i started rubbing mine when i went to 255/85 and sway a way coilovers
