Not a matter of looks, it's a matter of keeping my hair up without it slipping out of the tie. I've had my bun fall when I was working on a car and it got caught in the fan. Curly hair will not fall out of a tie. I tie my hair up for work every day and in my field that is considered a health code violation if your hair gets into things. I can cut it even shorter but then it would get into my eyes.
