access cover or literider cover

I just purchase my truck and I want to get a cover for it right away. I'm not sure which cover to get the access or access literider. The access one is a little bit more expensive and you can adjust the tension on it.

I live in Minnesota so in the winter time it gets pretty cold. I don't want the vinyl to contract so much that i can't use it anymore. In the summer times there are spans where the temperature is close to 100 degrees for a couple of weeks.

What would you guys recommend?

 

The literider has an adjustment also the dial is different but it is there. The real differences between the two are the front element seal and the cover straps (mostly Identical cover and warranty). I would reccomend the Lorado, it is a lower profile and same features as the Access. The lower profile makes a huge diff. with such a small bed although I cant use my tiedown cleats.

 

i would like the keep the OEM rails because haul a lot of stuff in the summer time when I head to the race track.

 

I have the access literider- I'm not sure what lower profile does for you...but I still can use my bed rail tie downs and cargo bars and stuff.

I used an access cover for a winter in CT and a summer in Miami- never had issues with the cover wearing or anything. I didn't have it for a super long time...so i guess it could have worn more down the road or whatever....but I've been happy so far with the literider i have now.

 

I came to the same cross-roads - rollup or literider. I went with the Access Roll-Up and am VERY pleased with the price, quality and looks.

The only difference in the dial system is the size of the knob. I don't think you will be adjusting very often and you don't see the knob.

What sold me on the Roll-Up, was the element seal. You can try and replicate it with weatherstripping from Lowes but may not get a good seal.

If you are not worried about a little bit of water trickling in from the front, the Literider is the way to go. If you will have luggege or something you need to keep dry, go with the Roll-Up.

Call Luke at Truck Alterations. He is very knowledgable and does not try and sell you on the most expensive - just explains the differences.


The Loredo looks nice but use of the tiedown cleats was important to me.

 

I got mine from Luke also, but I got an access LE. It's great. Full use of the cleats and 3 years old still looks new. Access it a good product.

 

Yeah, the Limited would've got me the center release system. Without it, I have to unlatch the driver and the passenger side at the gate.

HOWEVER, I have had the cover on for a 2 weeks now and have yet to lock the passenger side - thus, never needing to release it to roll back the cover. Everything else is the same between the LE and the RU.

I showed my neighbor, who has a snap system, and he couldn't believe how nice the velcro system is. I also like that the Access's do not show the ribs (or bows). I like the smooth top look.

 

+1 on the smooth top and the velcro. My dad has a cover that shows the bows and uses the plastic fins that clip into a channel on the bed rail- Just a crappy system and if it's cold...forget about it- You are going to break the fin or rip the cover.

The bows on these roll up covers are nice cause they are integrated into the cover too...The bows on my dad had sharp edges and punched holes in the cover...Not worth it at all.

You can buy the element seal separately and still come out cheaper after buying the Literider. I paid $280 shipped through Luke. I see no appreciable difference between them other than the element seal. To be honest, if you have a bed mat, what water that comes in through the front trickles down the front bed wall and under the bed mat. We had NASTY storms a couple weeks ago and the bed mat was completely dry.

I have had the Access limited-edition on my Ford f150 since 2003. I abuse the snot out of it and its still looks great. I can't imagine a better roll-up cover built. As far as the Literider goes, its the better deal. I wouldn't spend the extra bucks just to get the center latch knob and maybe better straps. The frame and cover is the same.

I talked to the factory about my wife's Tacoma and they said that only the Access models (including Literider) will work with Tacoma's rail system. They said that their channel bolts in behind the truck's rail system using the same bolt holes.

 

True story- The cover comes with spacer washers (tubes that are the same inner diameter as the outer diameter of the screw) to offset the rails from the bedside. I think I mighta gotten new bolts- They would need to be longer.... and it uses the holes. Take the rails off- Put the cover rails on...Set the spacers/bolts/bedrails and screw them in. 2 people made it alot easier...but I did one side myself before the wife offered to hold something.

 

Your cover didn't come with new bolts? When I got my literider from Luke at truck alterations, the cover came with longer bolts, to accommodate the increased width. Good thing to since some I stripped some of the stock bolts.

 

My Roll-Up came with new bolts AND the rubber extenders.

 

Hey Guys...

Not to knock the Literider as its a great little cover. If you feel you can replicate the front element seal then you shouldn't have any issues.

Between the Rollup and the Limited as it applies to a Tacoma the ONLY difference is the latching system.

I'd like to offer one more suggestion. I recently took the cover off my 06. The bolts were rusted stuck. All the heads stripped and I had to cut the bolt with a hacksaw blade to get them apart.

I suggest going to the hardware store and getting stainless bolts and washers. I had to order them at fastenal to find the right size. If you ever plan on removing the cover you will be thankful you have stainless.

I think you guys are right and I'm a moron- It would need new bolts cause they'd need to be longer....
