engine swap? Drain auto?

    Does anyone know if I will need to drain the auto trans when I pull the motor?

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    It would be a good idea. The torque converter is bolted to the fly wheel. You'll still lose some fluid from the converter even with the tranny empty.

    Or i suppose you could just unbolt the converter first and leave it attached to the tranny. Then you should be fine with the tranny full

    They are what automatic transmissions use instead of a clutch.

    it has a shitload of fluid in it, and no you don't need to drain the transmission, just unbolt the inspection plate, unbolt what bolts you can see, I would never recommend doing this by yourself because it will be a giant pain in the ass because you also need to rotate the motor by way of large breaker bar and socket on the pulley, this is to expose the rest of the bolts that connect the flywheel to the converter, that you have to unbolt one at a time. there should be six? and one will be colored differently.

    Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
    Replace the seal on the torque converter when you swap the engine. 1:it is easy to get to with the engine out. 2:you disturbed the seal. Seals don't like to be disturbed and stressed, and usually start leaking shortly thereafter.

    Good ideal^ Be sure when you put the convert back in it's ALL THE WAY BACK! if it's not and you bolt it all back together you'll break the pump gear. Another tip- when you pull it out to replace the seal do it quickly and put the converter front side down and you won't lose but a little bit of fluid.

    ok so how do I do this when I can only turn the motor maybe 10%

    the rods are shattered and aren't allowing it to move

    This is so the right answer! But I also agree that knowing what a torque converter is should be a prerequisite for doing this type of work. Especially if you are going to replace the seal! It needs to be seated correctly when reinstalling it.

    Hire a mechanic friend to help you. Disassembly is easy. Reassembling correctly, not so much.

    I know what a cat is haha

    But my knowledge of trans and torque converter are limited. I had some knowledgable members on their way to help me but decided to let the dealer do it for me. I dont have time to let this drag out in case we didnt finish this weekend.
