Cruise Control Advise

I recently purchased a 2010 4 cylinder 4WD and worked a deal with the purchase to have the dealer install a after maket cruise control. Does anyone have experience with a setup like this? I have heard cruises don't do well on 4 bangers and considering taking the credit and putting it towards a Leer topper through the dealer.

Any comments appreciated.

If you look under the cheap free mods, there's info and instructions on doing it yourself rather cheaply. IIRC its around $100 or so.
I don't know about the effectiveness of cruise on a 4 tho, but a cap is very effective at keeping shit dry

Is the truck auto or stick? CC does real well with a manual trans 4-banger, that's how my 2010 was setup. Its nice because the ECU will not let you lug the engine; it will simply release the throttle under a certain RPM/incline angle. Really liked cruise on mine.

Edit: I also gotta agree that you can do it yourself cheaper. Look at thecruisecontrolstore.com, its where I got mine and it installed perfectly. Fooled the dealer at trade-in time, it looked and functioned just like factory cruise.

GET THE TOPPER! Cruise control came with mine and at first I was like, "ooh yeah finally can cruise.." well... at least on the '06 V6 it sucks. My truck is constantly shifting up and down trying to find a good gear in cruise or drones on at about 3000 RPM @70 MPH when I can find that "sweet spot" to keep it at about 19000 without the cruise at that speed. I don't ever use my cruise control, BUT my shell I use daily.

 

Yes, it is a manual transmission. The DIY has got me thinking.

 

The steering wheel is the easy part. The clutch switch takes lots of patience.
