Whats up everyone, I just got home from Puerto Rico and it was awesome, it's a beautiful place. While I was down there surfing one day I fell pretty hard and hit the bottom. Well, my right hand went numb and it's still numb.... been 3 days now...Anybody have an idea what's going on, I think I might head to the doctor.

We surfed all over, had to run around alot to get out of the wind. Marias, domes, wilderness, surfers beach, middles, jobos, pretty much everywhere man. Had solid overhead swell the whole time, it was a pretty good trip, we each broke a board and I buckled an extra one, so did some damage for sure lol. Thanks for the advice, gonna call the doc.

Numbness in hands: What causes it?

[IMG] What causes tingling numbness in hands?

    - Rena / Illinois

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG][IMG]

Mayo Clinic neurologist Jerry Swanson, M.D., and colleagues answer select questions from readers.
    Answer

There are many possible causes of tingling or numbness in hands. The most common cause is carpal tunnel syndrome. This is due to narrowing of the carpal tunnel — which normally protects a main (median) nerve to your hand as well as to several tendons that bend your fingers — in your wrist. Pressure on the median nerve can cause numbness in your wrist, fingers, hand or forearm.
Other causes of numbness in hands include:

    • Ulnar tunnel syndrome, which results from compression of the ulnar nerve — another nerve supplying the hand
    • Compression of the cervical nerve root in your neck
    • Damage to the cervical spinal cord, such as due to trauma or tumor
It's important to determine the cause of numbness in hands. If numbness persists or spreads to other parts of your body, consult your doctor for an evaluation. Treatment of numbness in hands depends on the underlying cause.

Got it checked out just to be safe, nothing major says the doc, just a pinched nerve. I was mainly worried because I had surgery on that hand about a year ago, so i wanted to make sure all was still good.

tacomian devil- Come over and surf with me and buddies then we'll see who the rookie is...lol:bananadance:

Have never been to Puerto Rico but got to surf the west coast of Costa Rica for the first time last summer. We stayed in a house on Playa Grande and had plans to surf the spots up and down the NW Pacific Coast but never moved more than 100 yards north or south of the house. For a Florida boy the action was incredible.

Though I am now on Florida's west coast I grew up in Winter Park surfing Turtle Beach, the inlets and points north and south of NSB. Started my sons surfing at an early age and we have many a memorably camping trip to Sebastian and Jetty Park to surf. #1 son, his wife and my granddaughter went to Costa with us (it was his 7th trip there) and he got banged up pretty bad the first day. He kept at it for the entire week but his ribs were very painful.

Most of our really decent surf days are when a hurricane goes by in the Gulf. We can get some pipelines and other shapes that you wouldn't believe if you didn't see it over here.

Keep 'em hangin'! Glad you are OK.
