so heres the deal i recently bought a 08 tacoma dbl cab 4x4 auto trd spt. I put a 2.5 inch spacer on the front and 2 inch blocks on the back. i am not too familar with 4 wheel drive but have been using it a lot latley because of the snow storms. i noticed that when the 4wd disengaged that the truck would make a loud knock. today when i used my 4wd it did the same thing ones again but it also blew a seal in the front differential losing all the oil. the problem i have with this situation is, does the extended warranty cover this or is my warranty void because of the lift. i don't believe the lift caused this because the 4wd has always made this sound just didn't realize it wasn't normal. any ideas what the dealership might do?

The dealer would have to prove that it was your mods that caused the manufactures equipment to fail. If they find that it indeed did caused the Toyota parts to fail then it will not be covered under warranty.
You can add mods all that you want to a vehicle but if something fails in that mod to cause the original equipment to fail then the dealer has the right to void your warranty for that oem part that failed. They can not void a suspension warranty because if you have an exhaust leak for example.

My guess is that you're SOL. Maybe if you take the crappy lift out before you take it in . Knowing how most dealerships work they're probably going to claim it's the lift that caused the assplosion. Either way the removal of the crappy lift seems a good idea.

I don't know if the lift caused the seal to blow but I do know that knock you get when disengaging 4WD is caused by stress on the drive-line. Take your foot off the gas so no load is on the drive-line...then turn the switch back into 2wd and you won't get the clunk noise.
edit: how many miles were on the truck when you bought it? I'm thinking the problem was allready there and the lift might of aggrevated it.

i had my seals replaced 3 times by the dealer and they didnt say anything about the lift.......
lifting it should have nothing to do with the leaking seal.....

the seals usally heat up the warp when hitting mud puddles or simullar
well at least in my case
or by a buildup of moisture in diff or a clogged breather

i think it seems kind of weird that the front dif will blow only having a leveler kit on it for a month. i kept the origanel stock tires on it and had it aligned and double checked by truck works which is a well known shop in Maine notorious for installing all sorts of lifts

Under Magnusson-Moss, this is the case for the original factory warranty.

However, he's asking about his extended warranty. That is a misnomer... it's a service contract, and can specify anything and everything covered and not covered.
When I got my '03 Tundra, the dealership (Crown in Ontario) stuck me with a non-Toyota warranty that specified that ALL work had to be done at one specific independent shop in Santa Fe Springs or the dealership. Any other work would void the warranty.

I refunded that (after a huge fight) 3 days later.
