Opinions/Info on the BFG Rugged Trail tires...

What's the general consensus on the stock BFG Rugged Trail tires that came on my DC TRD Offroad?

Treadlife?

Traction in mud? snow? gravel? etc?

I've run BFG AT's and Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors on my trucks in the past...

My truck has 325 miles on it, and so far the stock tires seem fine in the snow and offroad in the dirt gravel here in Colorado...

It would be hard to justify $800 worth of tires for a brand-new truck... Especially to the Wife...

 

Subscribed........I am wondering the same thing! I still run the Rugged Terrains that came on my truck and it is an '05. They have just over 30,000 miles on them and look like they can go another season, which I hope they can because I can't really afford new tires right now.

 

It's all want your gonna use them for. If they work for you than stick with them, mine did well in ice and snow and were good for gravel, I just wanted a little more bite in my tires.

 

Yeah, I really only deal with snow/ice and dirt/gravel here in CO...

Obviously, when it comes to buying some new tires down the road, I will probably get something different...

 

Mine wore out kind of fast, but that's my only complaint really. They performed well, but they weren't too aggressive looking, so I upgraded to a bigger (265-75-16) BFG All-Terrain T/A at about 22,000 miles.

 

Do the 265/75/16's fit w/o mods?

Also, I wheeled my tires a lot, so that didn't help with ware.

 

Any noticeable loss of performance?

I live in the mountains, so larger tires w/o re-gearing scares me...

I noticed mine didnt handle too well in the snow and ice when i had my locker on. But you have 4x4 and i dont so you should be ok.

 

Mine did good in snow in 2WD with a locker, but it wasn't icy.

 

how do they do in any degree of mud? or steep muddy hills, say a 30-40 degree incline?
i only have about 200 miles on them, and am hoping i made the right decision when i didnt get the BFG TA KOs, in a compromise for highway driving.

 

it all depeneds on how you take care of them. My dad had the rugged trails on his truck for 73K beofre they had to be replaced. Proper rotation and air pressure will insure long lasting tires.

 

I took 'em off of my truck at about 800 miles, so I'm not really sure how they do in ice and snow. I do know that I looked at a used '05 tacoma before I bought my '09, and it had the stock rugged trails on it, with 30k miles, and they were nearly bald.

 

Mine did ok in the snow and ice but when i was down in NC messing around in the mud they were horrible. but then again theyre not meant for mudding so i wasnt surprised. i wish mine would wear out faster so i could feel better about dropping $800 on some better tires.

 

that sucks they are no good in the mud. would you say they are any better than "normal" highway or all season tires?

 

I haven't had problems in mud, but I've never actually climbed a muddy hill (no 4WD).
