Bed step

Didnt know this was an option. Thoughts ???

 

I like it. How does it fold up?

 

a waste of money... what's wrong with using the bumper if you're at stock height or close to stock height?

 

does it hinge up underneath and out of sight when not in use?

I kick my tailight everytime I use the bumper when the tailgate is down.

 

yep just step another 6 inches higher and use the bumper...

 

Yeah it swings up underneath. The yellow sticker cought my eye at the dealership. Could be TRD handicapped edition. Like mentioned above step in when tailgate is down.

 

Interesting, if somoene gave me one, I wouldn't turn it down. I don't think I would buy one for my truck though. My thoughts...... Meh.

If you have the extra money, why not? plus everyone is not tall enough to make that step up to the bumper. Just to save energy, i would put a little plastic step on the ground everytime i have to fully load my tacoma bed when i go camping because going back and forth can be tiresome especially when its hot. the plastic step is a Cheaper alternative, however if you have the extra money why not?

 

If you kick it, will it start the engine?

if its at a dealer, they prob slapped it on for the cost of the product (about $200), and called it a $500 option.

 

You need a step like on both sides of the bed in front of the rear tires - where there's nothing else to step on.

 

what happens when you accidently back into something, now not only your bumper is jacked but your step is done. the idea is cool but not anything i would ever buy.

I just step up onto my tire for the sides and rear. Hate putting footprints on the rear bumper. These are as useless as running boards to me, takes away from that "clean" look on the truck.

 

Ok, trash me for being an old guy, but I'm thinking about getting one of these Amp Research Bed Steps. Has anybody out there installed one on a 2012 Tacoma?

 

I had one on my 2011 Tundra. It was a very easy install.
The tundra though was much harder for me to get into the bed of the truck with bad knees.
It worked great & very solid. Attached to the frame.
Have not seen a need for it on my Tacoma & since it was model specific I sold it. They are pricey.....

 

There is definitely an OEM Accessory option for those. I remember seeing one installed on a truck at the local new car auto show.

The only advantage I see that it has is that you can more easily access the bed with the tailgate down. I have no problem getting into the truck with it up, but I have no easy way when it's down.

I wonder how it would hold up over the long haul.
