Which tonneau cover?

Just wondering what everyone thinks as far as tonneau covers go.
I've had the Truxedo Lo Pro QT before and I really liked it...but I see lots of people running Access tonneaus as well and I would like to hear pros and cons, specifically are you still able to use the tie down cleat system when the cover is both up or down and have you had any issues with the tensioners? Do they stretch the material out too much and are they easy to use.

i have an 2007 dc and i havee the tri fold rugged cover on it and am very happy with it. it is ironically rugged and easy to use. even in the dark you can adjust and/or remove in less then a minute, no tools. what i have learned is you dont need to over tighten it or it will wear the plastic parts out. but overall i am happy with it. if the cover is postioned correctly it does not allow water into the bed from the top, but as you know or will soon find out your bed will get wet from water infiltration through the plastic seams while driving in rain, hitting puddles etc.. can pick one up for about 325.

 

I had an Access Loredo on my last Tacoma and couldn't have asked for anything more from a soft cover. Low profile, flat, easy open and close even in cold, and except for a few drops after a hard hard rain...completely waterproof.

 

BTW theres lots of threads that probably answer all your questions. If you want to get an Access and use the rails with the full size cleats you have to get the Limited I think. The Loredo can use the mini cleats though. Something like that...

 

i personally like trifolds, with a pop n lock, they are technically lockable, just my preference though, bad thing is they stick up more than the tonneau covers you're looking at

 

i have a lo pro qt and love it. great build quality. it's the only one i've ever owned, so i can't compare to access, but i'm sure access has similar quality. i don't think you can go wrong either way. talk to josh at svcustoms!

 

I have an advanced folding cover. Wouldn't buy it again. The problem is that it leaks. I had a downy on a dakota pick up a few years ago and that held up well. I replaced the vinyl at about 6 or 7 years. A bitch in the cold but great otherwise. The folding cover I have now can be locked but it leaks through the locks. Pisses me off. The company just sent me new hardware but I have not had a chance to replace yet.
If the new hardware doesn't fix it I may sell it cheap and go with a tool box since I don't keep much in the bed anyway.

yea, I've looked lots threads. There are a million different covers, I am between two brands, one, the Truxedo, I've had before but on a Nissan and Access because I can get a pretty good price on either. I just want to maintain the use of the cleats and have a solid tonneau cover.

 

I have the Lo Pro QT and am happy with it so far. Can't move the tie downs in the track once it's installed (I left mine off) but the 2012 has 4 in the bed which is all I really need.

Much better than the Extang tri fold I had on the old truck which made the front 1/3 of the bed useless for tall things...plus it didn't seal that great which wasn't a big deal to me.

 

I have the Advantage Torza tri fold cover. No complaints.

 

when i get a truck i will get the roll up one.

 

I actually just got the Access Vanish Tonneau cover.

Pros:
- low profile
- great cost for what you get
- easy install (with two people)
- tonneau rail goes behind the bed rails on your Tacoma so you don't have any clamps all over the place
- the tensioners are great, but takes a bit of time to adjust and readjust to get the right fit (once you get the right fit you don't really have to worry about stretching)
- the tonneau rails are black

Cons:
- due to its low profile and the install behind the Tacoma bed rails, you loose the ability to use the cleats (fortunately, someone has modified them with a wing nut so you can still use them...unfortunately, I can't find the post so I can do it myself)

Other than that one con I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase. I slap on a bit of that 303 Aerospace UV protection and it give the tonneau an even better finish. Hope that helps.

 

Tonno pro tri-fold with Dyno Lock. I have it on my 10, I already put the Dyno Lock on my 12 so my gate can't be ripped, & I am about to order the tonno pro tri fold again. I've had it in snow & rain...it keeps 99% of moisture out.

 

tonnau pro tri-fold. Easy, cheaper (than most) and keeps water out!

 

What about the cleats? can you still use them? I'm more interested in the roll up covers. I would think it is very similar to yours?

 

You can still leave the cleats attached, but the cover actually sits on the top of the bed rails.

I dont know much about the roll up ones, but do they offer support for snow and such?

 

Depends, on my last truck the Truxedo had cross members that rolled up and they held up to snow and ice very well.
