    Love both my Yota trucks!

I feel comfortable because they are both 1st Gens and have a proven track record of reliability and longevity.

The little Taco is a go anywhere do it all mini monster truck....owned for 1.5 years now and no problems.

06 DC Tundra is the last of the 1st gens with a great V8 engine and an amazing silky smooth 5 speed auto.....this truck has the manners of a Camry but is very capable as a 7/8 size truck when you need it. Tons of room in the rear seat. Not alot of size difference between a 2nd gen Dcab Taco and this truck......and you have a V8!!

I know many people with 300000 plus kms on the 4.7 L and no issues....it does have a timing belt to change at 140000km....only have 68000 km on my Tundra

I understand the 2.7 L Taco engine is a great engine and so far I believe it.

Had to get the clutch replaced at 15000 miles. Fortunately, it was covered under a TSB and the new one seems much better. Toyota did the right thing, so we're cool. (Though free repairs are still a hassle. This was my second - hopefully the last.)

That aside, I'm really starting to appreciate the combination of comfort, cargo capacity AND killer gas mileage! AFAIK nothing else out there can deliver all that.

Got my 2012 TRD Off Road Double Cab new with 14 miles on it today. Test drove a 2011 SR5 6 speed and really liked it, but I wanted to 2012, damn.

I fkn hate it, but then it's my 1st Toyota so maybe I'm expecting too much, or am supposed to customize it?

    • Transmission and clutch is such a POS, can't get 1st gear even from a stop most times.
    • 1st and 2nd are louder than all hell.
    • Drive train shakes on accel from 10-30mph.
    • The Bilstein's are totally not valved correctly for the spring rates (or the springs are totally too light for shocks, however you want to say it).
    • The audio system is garbage quality.
    • Steering wheel is off: steer straight, get in wreck, no matter which way road is crowned.
    • Didn't help that Ron Tonkin Toyota delivered it with a stain on the rear seat, non repairable scratches to the right front hood and fender, glue all over the hood from a bug shield removal, and all around dirty interior and interior side of windows.

If the dealers can't address and remedy the drive train stuff after 3 attempts, I'll make damn sure it's lemon'd.

Most states have laws that allow you to cancel the transaction within 3 days. Was there something that prevented you noticing these deficiencies at time of delivery?

Nope, took delivery yesterday off the 18 wheeler from Oregon (had it shipped to CA). I'll look at that this morning.
    Found:
CA is a no go "There is no statutory cancellation period for automobile sales or leases."
But Oregon where the transaction took place virtually maybe.

Me too- came from an 03 duramax by way of failing defective injectors. Government Motors sure knows how to make Tacoma converts! True, no zoned heating and cooling, and no leather and heated seats. But I like the ride and handling as well as driver visibility, and how quiet it is-and lets not forget maneuverability.

I love mine for the amount i have driven 100,000km in 14 months I haven't had an issue except a wheel bearing. It drives as good as the day I bought it a little different suspension otherwise after switching to off road. It gets through anything I have thrown at it. Okay gas mileage. Comfortable and fun to drive. Resale value is great

Only other truck I would buy is a Tundra but Im happy with my tacoma I would buy another no doubt.

400 miles on my 2012 so far and i love it, overall feel and drivability of the truck is great. This truck is a big change for me as its my first 4x4 and first Toyota truck, i to am a gm convert coming from a 2005 Colorado that was my 4th gm truck overall. Just wasnt happy overall with my Colorado and was tired of fixing issues that i feel shouldn't of been a problem. I orginally wanted a silverado and keep on with my gm trucks but once i looked at and drove the Tacoma i was hooked. So hopefully my Tacoma is good to me and reliable and proves i made a wise decision. Only things that stand out that my Colorado had that the Tacoma doesn't is: Cargo lights, lighted window switches (was surprised this truck doesn't have them), and my frame on the Colorado was fully boxed unlike the Tacoma which isn't, although the Colorado frame rails were much smaller overall.

yeah, funny enough the cargo lamp thing really annoyed me to find Tacos don't even offer...or heated seats. Small things but you'd figured for what we pay for a fully loaded truck you'd get heated seats! once you have them ion one car is hard to do without......you get spoiled.

and a remote starter to....ok I'm done, outside of those tiny issues, i LOVE my truck

I love my 12' only thing i could say right now is i kinda would have liked the LB but i like having a MT DC, If it was totaled or stolen i would prbably step to the tundra as it would be a little more capable but i would never want to think about losing my Taco it is great and fun to drive and am happy with the choice i made.

I've had my 2012 for about 2.5 months now with about 2500 miles and I really don't have any complaints. I have a few things I think Toyota really missed on like a power rear panel window instead of a manual slider in a double cab

all in all, its good, got it lifted a little, tires and rims and am now working through my list of mods.

If it wasn't this, it would have been the T4R TE. I kinda wish I would have gone LB for the extra wheel base and full size bed but I know I would be paying for it in parking lots and my garage.

this was the same with me as even though i have room to park it out front of the house, the SB JUST fits in the garage, and parking lots are a PITA.

Yeah, I actually had to remove cabinets in my garage because I only had 2" of play.

From my first night home, just after pulling in...

The license plate screws that should be holding on a license plate are pressed against the cabinet.

That is 2" from the rear of the truck bumper to the garage door - seriously a tight squeeze. I pulled the cabinets out a few days later...
