My 11' tx pro has had an erratic hard/rough/no start issue for several months now.. This is the 3rd time I've had it at the dealer for nearly a week and they claim they cant duplicate it. To me it seems like a leaky fuel injector because while it is cranking it will sputter just before starting then will run fine after that. It happens when its cold outside and in fair weather. Sometimes I have to keep cranking for 8 or more seconds as if there is no pressure in the fuel rail at all.Other times it starts perfectly, even at cold temperatures. This cant be normal. I use good quality fuel and have no issues at all after it starts. I believe there was a TSB for the 07 having a similar issue...Has anyone here with a 2011 have this problem? Any help would be more than the dealer has done so far.

I bet it's that engine coolant temp sensor rearing it's ugly face, again. I'd try a ECM from a known good running truck and see if that solves it.

They did the re-flash 2 weeks after I bought back in 07 and completely fixed the problem. It's too bad they can't at least try it on the newer trucks...sure sounds like the same issue.

I read about the 07' tsb and it sounds very similar to the issue i'm having.. mentioned it to the dealer and they told me if toyota doesnt give them the flash procedure then they cant do it..

My 2010 was doing it, and after a year I finally got an answer that makes sense to me. The computer of the truck adjusts the fuel air ratio to get ideal mix for your location. Any time you disconnect the battery, or change elevation the ecu will either reset the fuel ratio back to stock or it will be incorrect until it adjusts to the new elevation.

You may have to let the truck sit overnight, this allows the engine coolant temp sensor...and some other sensor to be within 13 degrees F of each other. In the morning disconnect the battery for 15 sec. Upon start-up immediately drive the vehicle smoothly off idle to 40 mph for 3 minutes while not allowing the throttle to close. Then pull over and idle for 2 minutes then repeat the procedure 2 more times. Or something like that.

my 2011 trd offroad is doing the same thing andthe dealer can not duplicate it either. when i suggested a ect they said no, when i suggested a reflash based on the 07 they said none available. i work at a vw dealer and have had the same issue with them. truck is currently at the dealer and they have had it for a week trying to duplicate with no luck. in reguards to above i know this is not related because my truck only has about 7k on it and it will do it after i park my trunk at work in the morning and go out for lunch.... i only live about 4 miles from work unless i drive straight down the side of a mountain altitude is not related. in reguards to altitude being an issue that is a live change in the ecm called altitude correction and should not affect a car just from a start up if altitude correction is not being calibrated properly by the ecm there is a fault for that as mandated by the epa as the car will run like crap all the time

This is where a digital camera would be handy-video every time you start truck-catch+save the time when it happens-show it to dealer:)

8 days at the dealer and counting... at least they gave me a 2012 4runner limited for a loaner. toyota needs to get their sh*t together and solve this problem. i love the truck..but this is rediculous. I could understand if it was a new model and they were still working out glitches, but this model has been around since 2005.

Before engine start up your ecu looks at manifold absolute pressure( a big player), intake temp, and engine temp. It uses that to calculate start up conditions. Then fuel amounts, ignition timing, throttle blade actuation and valve timing are adjusted accordingly.

Did it ever throw a code? Did the dealer tell you anything came up on a scan?

I have a 2011 TRD Sport. and it only happens on cold cold mornings I haven't done or asked any one about it at the dealer mainly because I can never get it to do it when I'm watching. its always when I figure its not cold enough and will start fine. but if its been run and left in the cold temps its fine the rest of the day it seems to just be the over night sit.

no code has ever come up...and they told me they monitored the fuel pressure to see if it dropped overnight and it held pressure until they tried started it in the morning.
