should i put a super charger in my taco?????

hey fellas. i know a guy who is selling a super charger off his 2000 tacoma. my tacoma is v6 03 trd and has 206km on it. it only ever ran on supreme gas and run synthic oil. just wondering if the charger will affect the life of my engine? is it harder on the drivetrain?

any boosting is gonna reduce the potential life of what the engine could have done in oem form, but....it could be the other way without the supercharger, on low boost levels the supercharger wont be any worse than handing the truck to a 16 yr old and giving him a case of red bull

 

keep it stock-it was strongly built to handle a sc but at this stage of age I think it's asking a lot from that truck.

 

OP said his truck had 206km (I am assuming 206,000KM??) , which is like 120k miles.

I think he will be okay w/ a supercharger and low-ish boost

 

yep, have you wondered why old men die quick when they marry a 18 year old? they stroke out.
man, there is nothing wrong with a toyota sc but your truck engine had been wearing out so speaking at a steady rate for these years, and now you turn up the heat....
I would rebuild the motor from top to bottom to handle the stress..
and that is just one part..
that sc has some age to it, and do you know really how well it has been taken care of..
I love the thought of having a supercharger, but I would want it all new for piece of mind, and I would be changing the oil every 3000 miles with the best oil, or i would not do it.

I dont want to tell you what to do, but I have been lucky enough to have been around the charlotte motor speedway when i was young, used to get infield passes, but It can be done, but for it to work right and to work well, it is going to take some time and money, and you know if you go cheep, and it burn up, you have lost everything.

I agree with everything that is posted there. I had a S/C installed in my '03 from the dealer right after I bought it. I did the S/C, trans cooler, and 7th injector kit.

Would I do it again, HELL NO! At least not with many MORE modifications.

The thing killed my cats pretty quickly, and honestly not a stealership in the area had any clue what they were doing with it.

If I were to do it all over again, I would have to go with all the modifications and improvement from Gadget on URD.com in addition to the already mentioned 7th injector kit and trans cooler.

MAF calibration & tuning
Bigger injectors
Bigger fuel pump
New pulley

That it the only way you get your bang for your buck out of the S/C...the way I had it installed, I wasn't overly impressed. Now that it is gone, really don't miss it.
