quick question

About to install a cheap ipod adapter I bought @ best buy. Connects to the back of the head unit like a cd changer... Should I unplug the battery while doing this?

 

Good form...Prolly. I didn't do it with mine...Should be fine.

 

I just made sure the key was turned off and I left it in. I didn't disconnect the battery. No problems..yet. It is pretty simple to disconnect your battery though so it might be worth it.

I would recommend that when you take out the ac controls unplug the wires and be very gentle when you do this. If you want to take out the ac control panel, remove one of the knobs and use something to get behind the lip to pry it out gently. I did it this way so I would scratch up the plastic in the front.

Also when you unscrew the bolts for the head unit make sure you don't lose them (maybe use a magnet to catch them when you get em off). You will need a long extension to get to the bolts out.

Got the head unit and everything out, the adapter I bought won't work with my truck. Shame. Oh well, back to Best Buy to get my $27 back. I found using a putty knife to get the A/C controls out worked great.

 

I installed something similar for my ipod. The cool thing was I thought I was going to lose 6 disc player, but there was a unused plug on the back of the stereo.

I just have my wire coming out on the drive side console toward the floor. I kinda want to go back and make everything look better. drill a hole and insert a aux input on the dash somewhere. I live in a small mountain town and the nearest Radio Shack is like 30-40 minutes and doesn't every have much.

I considered unplugging the battery and ended up not doing because it doesn't require cutting or splitting any wires. I did however make sure the key was not in ignition at all.

and also a RCA to 1\8" cable. I choose 1\8" because it can work with any mp3 player and I can listen to music and charge the ipod at the same time. If you pull music through the ipod plug it wont charge it. There are other kits that will but i think they cost more or the install is going to involve splitting wires.
