border patrol

anyone here a border patrol agent or know someone who is an agent?? i was thinkin about it last night while driving back to cali, the only downfall is that they work mostly nights, which would be no time for family. any feedback would be helpful!

 

I'm not with CBP but I've worked with alot of them. Keep in mind that the guys who work the Mexican border are not the only Border Patrol agents out there. Tons of support jobs, as well as officers to the north and different special assignment officers.

They tend to get paid pretty decently and get some cool training and equipment, but with the increase in activity to the south- It's becoming a more and more dangerous job.

Law Enforcement is a great field tho...and I'm pretty sure they are hiring right now....

 

yeah but my EAS isn't until next june, and i plan on going to school to get a degree. not exactly sure in what but might as well use my GI bill, not to mention the housing money

An aquaintance of mine whom I have spent considerable time working with (Special Agent, US Fish & Wildlife Service)
once told me a few years back that becoming a US Border Patrol Agent was considered a great enty level job for anyone
wishing to persue a career in Federal Law Enforcement, and that they are always recruiting... FWIW

Speaking of always recruiting, I was driving back to the Phoenix area from Yuma yesterday and as I drove through the BP checkpoint I noticed they had a sign at the beginning of the check point that said "We're Hiring." I thought it was kind of funny/interesting that they would advertise that at a checkpoint.

 

dude i probably passed you last night lol...i saw the funniest thing also, this army guy was in his cami's at a gas station..im not sure if your framilier with the maricopa area, but it was right off the 238.

 

Ehh...If you are brave enuf to be running around that area prolly could handle a job with them.

I've got a few years before I have to worry about it but when I get outta the CG...I wouldn't mind flying for them...BORSTAR is badass.

 

i actually saw a couple helo's flyin over by the mountains on the 8, that would be a badass job

 

Yeah...I watched a discovery channel type special about those guys. Pretty awesome...and anything I can do to keep flying....I'm all about it!!

i dont think it was a circle k, i forgot.. its funny because he was walking around in cami's..you might be used to it, but for marine corps standards you shouldnt be walking around in cami's unless your on base, off base better have some civvies

 

Yeah...Not all us other services have crazy rules like that. Makes for hell here at NAS Pensacola cause we mix Coasties, Marines, and Navy (Air Force too...but we don't talk about them). Everyone gets confused about everyone elses shit all the time.

Good luck! I also read an article seeking 600 new agents. But that could be anywhere up and down the boarder

 

if you past the test, dont mind the nasty shit you see every week and ocassionally getting shot at you should be fine

 

I applied for Border Patrol in 94' failed the final test....would have been hired that day. Was broke back then & couldn't go back to El Paso to test. Regret.......Regret

I work in Artesia, NM......FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) is there. They train hundreds of agents there and Flight Marshals and other law enforcement there. I have a few friends iBP and they work shift work......they're trainers at FLETC on occasion.

Never heard any BP say anything bad about being an agent. All the ones I know and have talked to love it. BUT that's being stationed around here (Alamogordo, Carlsbad etc) and it's not REAL "busy" here.

 

being in the marine corps and deploying to iraq helps out with that

 

I don't konw anyone in BP but they have my utmost respect. I wear a BP hat (originally for Ramos and Campion) to show my support.
