    OK first thing first. U need to look at these kits as all being universal. So all in all that means you could put any projector you want in your headlights. So would be easy some will be harder.


    Lets look at all 3 kits in 2 different way.
    1st Light performance: Starting with the best first.
    FX-R: Is one of TRS BEST looking CUT_OFFS... Also offers equal spread of lights on the ground with a very nice blue cut-off line.
    Mini H1: Has great light performance as well with a very nice blue cut_off line. This kits has good spread with very little hot spots. Better distance of light when compared to Mini D2S.
    Mini D2S: Has good light performance. The cut_off IMO is not as nice as the Mini H1. It offers a good spread of light and the light spread is wider but not as far out and the Mini H1.

    2nd Ease of Installation: Starting with the easiest to hardest.

    Mini H1 and Mini D2S: They are both pretty easy to install. You should be able to install these kits with very minor trimming or none at all. When I say trimming, I mean trimming the area of the headlight where the OEM buld would plug in. It may not need trimming at all. Aiming the cut-offs will also be very easy with these kits. These kits can come with a 9006 adapter plate that really help line up the cut-offs.
    FX-R: This kits requires you to cut up your OEM headlight to fit the projector. You would have to take you time with this and aiming the lights are little more of a pain in the butt. But aimimg the projector is the key thing here. It takes patients and time to get it right.

    So here is my 2 cents on what kit I would get if I was in your shoes (NOT TELLING YOU WHAT KIT TO BUY).
    It would be the Mini H1 Kit. Reason being, ease of installation and great light performance.

    Mini H1 stage III kits 4.1
    Adaptor Plate: 9006
    Relay: 9006

    As far as having someone do the retrofit for you. Check out www.hidplanet.com . Many member on that forum who live on your side of the world who do retrofits. But honestly the Mini H1 Kits are so easy a cave man could do it. lol.... I say that because I like to encourage people to do the mods themselves. Because there is no better feeling than having someone say DAMN THAT LOOKS GOOD and knowing the fact you did it yourself. haha

    Hi John, your description below is the best I've read to help a noob like myself figure out what to do when it comes to HID Projector retrofits. You should be in sales for HID projector retrofits - you cut out all the bullshit and got straight to the point in just a couple of paragraphs! :D

    Clearly as you pointed out later, in my mind its best to go with the Mini H1.

    When you say very little trimming is required - I just need a bit more clarification.

    In all the threads I've read regarding an HID projector retrofit the following are always brought up as the "required" steps to accomplish this mod

    - baking the headlights and taking the outer plastic covering off the headlight - opening it completely. Just for my clarification - is this not really required based on the facts you mentioned above?

    - cutting the halogen reflector to accomodate the HID projector. My truck does not come with a Halogen projector - however I will upgrade to the 2006 model headlights which do come with a halogen projector - does that mean the little trimming you referred to only applies to headlights that already have a projector which would ofcourse be removed and an HID projector swapped in?

    Again, I agree with you as you clearly know what you're talking about - this is the best way to go. Any recommendation on what shroud to go with?

    Honestly, I would love to do the retrofit myself, however baking the headlights is one thing I don't want to do - cutting the trim might not be such a big deal and I might attempt to do that based on some clarification I'm looking for above.

    You don't have to bake the headlight, I use a heat gun and heat up the seals. Works every time!

    In other news, my retrofits shipped yesterday! Yes!

    The idea of opening the headlights is what scares the crap out of me - potential condensation issues etc down the road due to me not sealing it properly.

    On another note after reading the description on the TRS site for the Mini H1 4.1 - the text below alludes to the ease of installation, but it's still not clear to me if removing the front cover of the headlight from the rest of the headlight assembly is still required.

    "Disassemble headlights, insert threaded mounting shaft of the projector through the pre-existing hole in the back of your reflector bucket, tighten the stack with the included hardware, and you're virtually done. The optional adapter plates make alignment as pain free as possible for most applications too. "
