About a month a bought a used 2003 tacoma single cab pre runner with 170k miles. I took it to the dealer and had an oil change done and i replaced the air filter with a new fram filter. Now for my question i am still haveing horrible gas milage and not sure what it might be. i was thinking maybe the muffler or cat that might be bad??? any advice would be greatly appreciated.......

Do you know when the last time the plugs were changed? How the tire pressure? Do you have a heavy foot? Is the truck stock, lifted, tire size? Oh and welcome to TW

You bought a truck not a Prius. >.>

16-18 is pretty average for city
    20-24 is average for highway.

If you want good mileage buy a corolla.

Not being mean in the slightest sense btw

@ jester243 not sure when there were changed but it is next on my todo list. tire presure is to specs, no heavy foot at all, the truck has 18inch wheels and its at stock prerunner height....
@whippersnapper02 i have only used the truck to drive my daughter to school 3 miles round trip and had used 1/4 tank in 3 days......
@chamyota.....lol i have had plenty of trucks before this is just my first tacoma. and just feels it should be better in the gas milage dept than my previous truck....

i drove 60 miles round trip a few days ago and used 1/4 of a tank.....not sure if thats normal??? maybe i was just expecting a bit better milage maybe..

    thanks all for the replies.......

Tire size? Lead foot? Lift? Roof basket? Winter blend! All will effect mpg. I posted same thread last month and these are the answers I got. I sold my 04 cummins diesel and I used to get 20 mpg with that. Glad I kept the Tacoma even though I only get 15 with my Toyota.

It is confirmed! This is trip 3 to the Moreno Valley this month and I get around 50 more miles per tank when I fill up there instead of down here in San Diego.

ok i definitely think it was the winter gas that was giving me bad gas milage, because 2 weeks ago i got sent out to work to santa barbara ca. i live in whittier which is about 125 miles away. so i filled up and recorded the miles and got 300 plus miles...
