Looking for some info here. I know and have read on the rear leaf TSB. My truck (2011 TRD sport) needs it. So I talked to the dealership and they had no problem doing it. Finally got the "new" springs installed yesterday (guy had it done in 2 hours), I pick up the truck and went to inspect. There is new 3-leaf pack installed!(2 springs w/1 overload). I tell the service guys that something isnt right and they have the manager call me today. He says that the OFP part number is the springs that were originally on there. They ordered part numbers 48210-04570 and 48220-04210 and says they received a superseded part numbers of 48210-##### and 48220-#####. I tell him no, that is not correct and that the springs are supposed to be a 4 leaf pack and he continues to say there are no 4 leaf packs for this TSB that is covered under warrenty? Am I wrong or did something change? I know many many members on here have had the 4 leafs installed. Anyone run into this, and if so, what did you do to get it corrected? I do need the pack and feel its something Toyota needs to make right. Thanks...

NO, You are correct sir. I had the exact same thing happen, so about a month later I went to my original dealer (had gone to a different stealership), told him what happened, and the service manager called them idiots and said he'd get it taken care of. They gave me a rental car for about 2 days, and had actually sent the truck back over to the other dealer ship to let them fix their mistake. You just have to find the right person to talk to. I had originally gone to my dealership and they were talking about all these inspections and saying there was none for the 2011...So i went to the other dealership...

Yea, he just called me back and said his warranty claim lady came to him and said it looked like to her also that they installed the same parts that were originally on it. So he says he's going to get with the shop foreman and do some more research before I call Toyota myself to get this figured out. I didnt think I was missing anything. Guess its a waiting game now....

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
I've said this a million times every time a spring tsb thread pops up. File a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission that the truck can't safely haul the weight capacity that Toyota claims. They have to notify Toyota that a complain has been lodged. It really got their attention. It takes minutes online. I filed a complaint with the BBB too. I'm not sure how the BBB runs but I'm damn sure anything Federal is getting a piece of my paycheck, so let them do some work for me.

Tell them you don't want to hear about part numbers, you want to hear about weight capacities. They got tons of tools, have them load up half a ton and go for a spin. They won't do it, of course. But it starts the safety and false advertising issues and not the "harsh ride" bullshit.

Very good idea, I may just do that. Would this be something, if enough people did it, they could just eventually issue an actual recall you think?

Also, make sure to specifically state you have a "harsh ride". If you research a bunch on the TSB and know what you are talking about, they aren't going to bullshit you. When i walked in the second time i had part numbers in hand, showing they installed the wrong parts. I had the TSB printed and ready to go. Luckily, the service manager (only guy i talk to now) saw immediately i wasn't there to get the run around and he didn't even skip a beat and started writing up the fix.

I did the same thing, soon as i got the truck back, I noticed another 3 pack and was told they aren't doing 4 packs like that anymore, that that is an upgraded 3 pack to carry the weight. I find out about 2 weeks later when my back end is hitting bumpstops with my 500 lb motorcycle in the back and only me in the car, that that "upgraded" leaf pack still can't handle it.

Negative, the only time a recall is issued is if it is a Safety issue. This isn't a safety issue, its merely an inconvenience to those of us that actually use the truck as a truck, and not just a shiny new big thing.

most people aren't putting more than a couple hundred pounds in the back of the truck, so they never really notice the missing overload...

My truck came with the 4 leaf pack stock , and I don't think it could haul Toyota's listed weight without riding the bumpstops

Thats pretty much what I did. Got straight to the point about it and used "harsh". They had no problem doing the TSB and filing a claim. I think they just dont fully understand what the TSB was saying or maybe Im somehow the first one these people have done.

Maybe not, but the most I haul is my quad and some tools (about 550lbs) and the thing sits nose high and feels very light up front when driving. So yea. I also told him the Canadian trucks come standard with the 4, and his response, "Well, I can't order Canadian parts".

Just got off the phone again.....with the service manager. He tells me that I am right, his parts dept. screwed up again, and after all this, he has had the parts IN STOCK this whole time. This will make it the 3rd time Ive taken my truck up there to get the springs put on......

I've got a 2011 sport and i now have an appointment w/ the dealership thursday. I've had around 500 lbs in the back but it seems to be alright. I would like to get 4 pack installed since I plan on towing a 4000 lb boat this year. What do I need to say to them. I already mentioned a "harsh ride" when loaded. Anything else?

Use the search function, not even saying that as a dick, just search for Harsh Ride TSB, or Leaf spring TSB or Rear Leaf TSB, stuff like that, theres thousands of threads on it. Just learn as much as you can about it, specifically what Toyota said your truck is capable of hauling and weight limits in the back, and then when you talk to the dealer (as i did), tell them you had around 500 lbs of something in the back and when you were driving it seemed like the backend seemed really loose and felt like it wanted to drift around, it was really 'harsh' and anytime you went of bumps or dips, your back end slammed down. Mainly just bullshit them before they can bullshit you. Unless you find a guy (like I finally did, 3 dealership visits later) that actually knows what he's talking about and is fully willing to help you.

went to the dealer today to try and get tsb done. Said that it qualified but they were putting a new upgraded trd spring kit in (3 leaf with higher tensile strength)and then taking care of some other tsb for rear suspension that I didn't know was out there. I think it is some upgraded bushings or something like that. I forget it way too early! Said they aren't doing the 4 leafs anymore. Said that this kit is as strong as the 4 leaf they were putting in??? At least I only have 5k on the truck. plenty of time to prove them wrong. Appt. set for next thursday. I'll keep everyone posted!

Yea, that's totally bullshit. They did the same to me. All they are doing is just putting a brand new 3 pack. print yourself out a copy of the TSB, its on TW here somewhere, and look up the part numbers for 2011 4 leaf pack as required by the TSB, and either tell them you want to see that part number before they put it on, or wait till they install then check part numbers and guaranteed the 3 pack will have a different #, then you calmly walk back in and SHOW them the TSB and they should re-install :D

well, went back to the dealership with tsb printed out (all 18 pages of it) in hand to get this resolved. 30 minutes later, he has me come back out to service desk and ask if I have a harsh ride or squeaky ride? Apparently, there is two TSB's out for the taco no but they contradict each other. The squeaky repair is to replace bump stops and clamps and we all know what the harsh ride answer is. he tells me they can only do one or the other because the parts will not work together. I told him I didn't give a shit if the ass end squeaks or not as long as there is a 4 leaf pack back there! LOL!!! He said done. Parts ordered. unfortunately, this is going to take a third trip back to the dealer to get this done. What a pain in the ass. You would think they wouldn't care since they are getting paid warranty rates for these repairs. Incompetence and laziness is running rampant in central Ohio.:D:D

They can do both , the squeaky leaf tsb just has them replace the isolators between the leafs
