Im surprised about that. I went to discount tire not a single problem. The manager asked if they were the new BFG m/t tire because of the tread. he could not tell they were retreads until get looked closer at them. Then another one of there guys asked where I got them some he could get a set lol

My mechanic didn't care, but Firestone looked at me funny when I went for re-balancing.

I ran treadwrights on a dodge diesel for awhile. The only problem I ever had were cracks developing in the sidewalls before the tread wore down but still inside the 24 month warranty period. Treadwright did warranty (pro-rated) the tires and provided me with cash since they were way behind on the size (285 75 16 Wardens). I would have taken another set if they would have had them at the time. I've only had one tire suffer a tread separation, and it was not a retread it was a near new Uniroyal Laredo, tore the driver's side bed almost completely off my old Ford F250

I have first hand experience with retreads coming apart on a small truck. I was driving through Wyoming several years ago in my Nissan and had one come unglued at 85mph. It pulled me accross the lane next to me (empty), tore off my exhaust at the cat, folded my rear panel, opened up my wheel well (could reach a hand through to the bed), and lifted that side of my rear bumper about 1.5 inches.

Make your own choices, I'll buy new tires thank you.

I notice you said retreads and not treadwrites. What brand were they? More importantly, how long ago was this? The technology behind retread tires has improved greatly over the years.

The only bad comments I could find about retread tires was when people let them get low on air, or wore them bald.

One should always inspect their tires at least once a month even if they are brand new or retreads. The actual recommandation from all manufactures is to inspect tires are each fill up(impractical). Any tire will fail if not proberly maintained. Also several years ago retread technology was not very good. also im sure you were also over the speed limit of the tire at 85 mph. New retreads however have very good track record.

I don't remember the brand, but I bought them used and knowing they were retreads. I also used them in conditions under which I knew I shouldn't. Roll the dice, pay the price.

I put 140 miles on my 35" guard dogs last night. No problems at all. They ride smooth, and I'm loving them so far!

I had 2 brand new hankook Mts come apart on my 2500hd and a new Goodyear mtr come apart on my old K5. New tires blow just as often as retreads.

As far as people commenting about the retreads on the sides of the roads from tractor trailers, a lot of those aren't even retreads...

FWIW the retreads on my fathers peterbuilt have 80,000 trouble free miles.
