So I sold a set of LED Tails to another member on here (wont mention any names) and he wants a refund because he says he received a crack on 1 of the tail lights. We've been PM'ing back and forth saying he wants the refund but I'm denying because the damage happened out of my hands, everything I send out is in good condition, but I didnt get insurance through USPS...

Is the insurance something I'm supposed to do, or something that should be requested through the buyer? I told him that I only get insurance if its requested, otherwise I dont get it.

Hes recently requested the refund through Paypal resolution center and we're now communicating through there. Should I just refund the money back because its something I'm supposed to do as the seller? I really dont want to refund the money and get back broken tail lights for something that was out of my hands....

x2 and i think it depends on who worked out the shipping because they had the option to pay for insurance. But i would think that both ends could buy insurance on their own

On other forums, if the buyer dislikes the item, the seller is obligated to refund the buyer and the item is returned to the original owner (Shipping on the buyer's dime). I'm not sure how the rules on this forum apply on returns and dislikes, but I would refund the buyer and he would just ship the item back to me. I would PM a moderator and ask their take on the situation.

Yes, I have refunded several buyers before. I know it sucks, but its apart of the game.

FYI, I always ALWAYS put insurance on anything I ship, no matter if its a $10 light bulb. That 2% insurance cost (2% of the value you want to insure the item) is worth every penny in situations like this.

I would refund, but that's just me - I will never be rich.
Why don't you settle with the buyer and split the losses 50/50. Lesson learned and next time, not just you but anyone here who ships stuff, make sure you pack it good.

Tough situation, in the future I'd offer insurance or if they don't want it just give them a friendly reminder that any damages are the buyers responsibilitty if they choose not to buy insurance. FYI, ship ups and insurance is free

honestly Ron, i'm old-school and adhere to the old adage "the customer is always right". sucks if you have to take 'em back when it wasn't your cause, but how much commerce do you partake in here at TW? is it worth it to possibly suffer damage to your rep? only you can answer that. insurance should always be purchased IMHO, as it's actually quite cheap. at a minimum, if you take 'em back, ask the buyer to rep your thread/profile, that could help with future transactions. just my 2C:eek:

You are the seller, and responsible for the item up to the point that they reach his door.

This includes if you had insurance - your responsibility to refund to him, as the shipper will refund to you.

As a seller, start taking photos of exact condition - I do a video showing the item (working if it is electronic) stating the date, and condition, as well as any flaws, and me boxing em up. keeps this from ever being an issue.

But then, as a buyer, if the box looks damaged AT ALL, I photo every step of opening, to protect me, and the seller (for insurance purposes).

Looks like I won't be buying anything from you anytime soon :D. J/K it's a tough situation for both of you, but as a seller you have to take responsibility for the products you sell. It sucks, but if you want to keep your reputation on a forum as a seller you have to be willing to compromise with your buyer if issues like this happen. If the buyer wanted to go 50/50 that's a good deal. I say ask for a picture of the cracked tail light and go from there. Next time (as many have already stated) use the insurance.

i would, but that's just me. if he only wants 50% back, not counting whoever is paying the return shipping, then you'll only be out half, and get the tails back.
