2012 Tacoma U-Bolt Flip kit arrived today!

Guys when i install them, I dont have to jack the truck up right? i can just undo the old and install the flip kit correct? I think nothing will move as I dont really want to take the tires off to do this simple job

 

You could probably do it without removing the wheels, but it would be so much easier to do without them on.

 

what is the purpose of doing this? I dont see any benefit besides maybe like an inch of clearance where the ends of the U hangs

 

2 reasons:

1 Protects the bolts from damage

2 Less to snag and hang up if you are out wheeling

I wasn't going to use Bump stops, there is really no need in my case as there is no way it can bottom out because how high the truck is. Install took like 30mins, I didn't have to take the tires off, tho an impact wrench would have made the job only take 5mins

The reason why i wanted to do the flip kit was for looks, i don't like shit hanging down off of the truck i like clean lines etc.....

Lol i guess you could say that, but it's only 1.5" bigger than the original lift kit block...ah it's okay...no more rear sag!!!!

 

So you would rather rip a fender off with your tire then install bump stops?


I do not understand why you would risk damage to a 2012....for something that takes 30 minutes to install and is required should you use the truck as an actual truck.

 

I ran mine without bump stops for months, wheeled it and everything. I just recently took the time to make my stock ones work.



An angle grinder will make quick work of this. Also I used a hammer and an anvil to flatten out the ends.

 

Not to be an asshole, but you didn't really wheel it hard if you didn't bottom out at all in "months".

We don't need members reading this thinking its OK to run around with no bump stops then crack a frame or get hurt. Running with no bump stops is not recommended by anyone who sets up trucks.

 

Last I checked, I never said it was ok. If you have a 6" + lift in your truck, there is no way in hell the leafs will ever come close to the frame, if you have a 2" / 3" lift, of course you should use bump stops...

 

XXXX's comment was directed toward Tacomalex, who doesn't have a 6" lift.

I am running Timbren bumpstops with All-Pro's U-bolt flip kit.


I did one side without taking off the wheel. The All-Pro kit uses locknuts with a high rundown torque. It was a pain in the ass (or rather, arm) because there is very little swing space for a long ratchet handle. With the wheel off, it's easy to reach down over the brake drum.

 

I used WD40 to get them off and put the new ones on. It was a pain in the ass.. All was well once WD40 went on...
