0311 reserve for 5 years here. My last unit was scheduled for activation to OEF but due to money issues and change of mission over there, we were demobilized. Brass told us no more kicking down doors and bringing the fight to the enemy. Instead, we have to hold their hands and provide POG support while the Afghans try to unfuck themselves and hold their on. Because of that, I transfered to a POG unit (MOTOR T) that is scheduled for activation to OEF later this year.

Keep in mind, I'm a 0311 Corporal but will be sent to a 2 week truck licensing course over the summer for my a/t to make me eligible for deployment. Because I want to go so badly and I've shown it, 1st SGT assigned me to a deploying platoon.

Now I see the POG side of the house. It's different. More relaxed and nasty but I give them some respect for what goes on behind the curtain in terms of providing support. This new unit I'm with is DSMT (direct support motor transport) so that means we provide our own security and all that good trash.

A small detachment from my unit just returned from OEF. More than half of them received purple hearts due to constant contact with IEDs everytime they left the wire. One of the Marines had to get both of his legs amputated. I used to talk shit about POGs but after coming to a truck unit, my respect for them has gone way up. Well, at least for motor-t.

That's my boring story. That is all. Haha.

    /insert weekend warrior jokes

I'm merely passing what my brass told us. Reserve infantry ain't going to Afghan anymore because it cost too much money to deploy us and the draw down. Last reserve grunt unit that hit country was 1/25. My last unit was suppose to replace them. We really would like to go but too bad, you can't control where you wanna go in the Corps.

How did I miss the grunt role call? Maybe I should get out of the Texas Section a little more often.

Either way, I did the last half of my 4 years with 2/4 Golf Co Wpns Plt in '05. We did squat on the Oki rock instead of going back to Iraq.
