Well I am at loss for why my truck is getting 32.4 mpg. I have a2007 reg cab 2.7l 4x4 I hear steady reports of others around 24 with my same truck.maybe it has to do with elevation but I can sure tell you I have done everything possible to improve mpg. I have changed all oils in my truck to pure synthetic with lucas oil synthetic stabilizer where it can be used, I have upgraded to an afe cold air intake with a pro dry filter, upgraded my header to the dt header, added a dynomax muffler and installed a scan gauge, I use lucas upper cylinder lubricant additive in my fuel and always fill my tank with non ethanol 87 grade fuel. maybe I just hit the perfect combination on the head but that setup works pretty dang good for me. I would really love to see somebody else do the same exact thing my truck is been set up to do to see if there's performs just as good.a far as I've seen there is only one other on here I see with a 32.8 mpg average and he has a 5 lugger. is there anyone else achieving such mileage with their 4x4 tacoma or do I just have a freak of nature 4x4?

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
I suspect you just got lucky right out of the box with your truck. I was getting around 22 to 23 until I put new shoes one it and now 20.5 on the past few tanks. A little disappointing but I like the tires better than those stock pieces of crap.
Of course my driving affects the mileage. I generally don't let grass grow so if I back off a bit I'm sure I'll see improvements.

What mpg were you getting before the add-ons? Do you know the gear ratio? Must be a manual trans.? Sounds like you've got something special with that truck. Hope it last you for many miles.

There is one place around here that has non-ethanol. I should try that. I have been getting about 22 (stock size tires but in LT rather than P).

Honestly I think my truck getting good mpg has something to do with my trucks original owner ”seasoning” the engine properly. The original owner was a 60 year old from saint george who always drove it careful, never going over 4000 rpm, always having all mileage matinence checks and fluid changes done accordingly. The one thing the owner told me is that he added lucas synthetic oil stabilizer in the engine, oil transmission, and in the diff. I bought it at 45000 miles.the owner told me the mpg slowly increased over those 40k miles. When I first got it I averaged about 27.7 mpg. All the mods gave me around 4. Some odd gain. that includes full synthetic fluid changeover.

03 4x4 access cab stock except 31x10.5s. Last summer I was getting 23-24mpg. Once winter hit (although I've not needed 4 wheel) I moved so my trips when from mostly highway at least 15minute to 30 minute drives to 10 minute drives and more in town driving. also went from stock tires to the 31s. With the seasonal gas and other factors I've dropped to 18-19mpg :(

4x4 extended cab. I get 20-21 and a few times as high as 23 driving back roads, mostly 3rd gear and about 1750-2100 RPM's looking for deer/elk/animals. Not much in town driving. Freeway driving is 24-26, so the difference in driving conditions makes about 4-5 MPG difference for me. I haven't noticed a difference between winter and summer. Our winters are not very cold.

Maybe it will pick up with this nice weather, but with the higher fuel prices I've been driving the Honda Accord (30-32mpg)and riding the Harley Davidson (38-42mpg). So sad it just sits in the driveway.....

Just got a bit over 24mpg in my 4x4 reg cab manual. This was the tank after I installed a cross-bed ladder rack and drove some winding back country hills running higher revs in lower gears to get though some steep grades. I average between 22-24 mpg consistently throughout the year. My truck now has 19,500 miles on it and like a previous poster mentioned the mileage gets better well after the "break-in"
