Ben, you should consider, if you haven't already, adding an option for a switch that fits in one of the switch blanks (either center or left side). I know if I was buying new, using one of the blanks would be preferable to cutting a hole somewhere.

There are some cheaper switch options that work with just a bit of trimming on the backside of the dash hole, and some more expensive drop-ins. Not sure if "options" are where you want to go though.

I like this idea, and I agree with your feeling that it may be preferable for many folks to use one of the existing knock out blanks for the switch rather than cut a hole.

I wanted to find as affordable of a switch as possible to keep the kit cost as low as possible, without sacrificing quality or safety (i.e., don't want to use any kind of cheapo switch with too low of an amperage rating). But I will do some research and see what kinds of options are out there for switches that would fit in those blanks (on both the drivers side of the steering column and under the climate control console).

    Thanks for the input!

Very cool thread and idea. I want one one but would prefer a smaller switch that works in a blank as well. Let me know if you get to that point and I'll take one.

You can also do some searching here for switches that fit the blanks and just replace the one Ben sends, or have him delete it from the kit.

^ This is my inclination. I pay about $12 for the switch that I include in the kit. I'm willing to exclude the switch and knock $12 off the kit price for any customer looking to buy their own switch. Keep in mind that most window switches that can handle window motor amperages and that will fit into the OEM slots will cost north of $50-60.

Here is a sliding window switch for a Tundra, which I believe will fit into the Tacoma OEM slots --price from online parts distributor is $57:

Or if you don't mind the up-down icon, here's one from a 07+ Tundra for the rear up-down sliding window that looks like it would fit in the slots under the climate control console on the newer Tacomas -- price is $62:

The first one was from rockauto. Don't recall where I found the price for the second one, I was just googling around for like 10 minutes and stumbled upon a supplier.

I might see if I can find the second one at a better price and install it on my 2012. I will let you know if I make this happen and if it works you could probably add it in as an option to your kit.

For the switch question, check this page from Firgelli, $18+shipping. I am using the Sustaining switch successfully with Ben's kit,,, reminder, I had the linear actuator installed initially. Switch fits center blanks with some trimming toward the back of the blank hole, not sure about the left blanks.

For the record, that switch is rated for 16 Amps, which is plenty for this window mod application.
