This customer has had a few issues with his installation.

Apparently he did not wire the unit correctly can had to pay someone $800 to fix his mistake.

Then he insisted on exchanging the unit for the version without the built in MAP sensor. URD declined this because we knew the unit was originally wired incorrectly and may have been damaged. This is not covered under the warranty if there was something wrong with it.

URD has answered every one of his emails and I did my best to guide him through emails. I was not able to get him to understand how to connect a vacuum line and when it was apparent that he could not grasp this I have made SEVERAL attempts to get him to call me so I could explain it to him. I sent several emails and left several phone messages for him asking him to call. Instead he just kept sending offensive emails.

URD has been using the same install guide for years and we have never seen anyone have so much trouble connecting 5 wires and a vacuum line.

In all this time I still have not spoken with this customer on the phone.

When you install a performance product on your vehicle you do need to have the ability to follow instructions, you must have the skill and tools to complete the task, and if you don't you need to seek professional assistance.

Anyway, I did the best I could and it seems it was not good enough.

I am sorry you did not like my review of your product. Instead of attempting to blacken my character why don't you have some integrity and take some responsibility, Gadget. Broken Tusk was able to send me graphic instructions in 2 days....something your company couldn't do in 6 weeks. It would have taken you 5 minutes maximum. URD even wrote the instructions Broken Tusk sent. You know I called you repeatedly telling you that I had connected the unit and had no idea what to do with the vacuum line. When I first tried to contact your company you didn't even have voicemail for your assistance line. How was I supposed to get a hold of you?

I am not sure how you even consider ""connect the Vacuum line to the intake manifold post throttle valve to provide the proper load scale" as proper instructions in the first place. No pictures or detailed instructions, that's what I received in the box.

Why don't you also tell them how you continue to assume that I wired it incorrectly even though it was connected for over a week waiting for URD to respond on the vacuum line? Or maybe how your counter solution to a return had me sending back the unit paying for the harness and then sending it back to me.....still without instructions on how to connect the Vacuum tube! Or how it took you 4-5 days to return my initial calls. Who wouldn't get frustrated when their truck is dead and you aren't returning calls! When you did decide to return my call you left brief unhelpful messages perpetuating the phone tag. If sending an email asking for support and even offering suggestions is offensive than I hope no one ever buys from you again!

I am very disappointed that you chose to marginalize and smear me publicly. If you had actually taken the time to hear me out we could have had a positive ending to this affair. Instead you are trying to make me out as an idiot to justify URD's ineptitude, disgraceful on your part. As a customer I gave my account as accurately as I could from what I experienced. When You sell a product of this manner expect to provide adequate support and documentation. All I wanted was some help to get YOUR product working. You were TOO busy to give me that effort. Instead of asking why your customer was unhappy you chose to blame him and tell him to go pound sand. THAT is what I want your future customers to know. In the end I don't think you ever truly took the time to listen to or read about my problem because you still don't know or don't care. You've spent more time and effort trying to devalue my experience then you ever spent trying to help me. If that's the best you have.....BUYER BEWARE!

And you see the type of emails I have been getting. Just constant accusations and insults.

It trying to provide tech support to someone that just does not want to listen to simple instructions.

Still, I cannot get him to call me.

Keep in mind we have been shipping these units out for about 10 years now. The instructions have been the same all along and one guy has an issue.

l will admit at first I was a tad unresponsive. I had driven out to Ouray CO for the FJ Summit, but did answer emails and phone calls the best I could when I had digital and cell service from the vehicle.

Now about this vacuum line, I gave clear instructions how to connect it more than once and I just was not getting through for some reason.

When you install a performance product on your vehicle you do need to have the ability to follow instructions, you must have the skill and tools to complete the task, and if you don't you need to seek professional assistance.

The URD MAF Sensor Calibrator is the simplest tuning device to install and tune on the market and it remains the very best performance value going.

    ^^x2 on this

why wouldn't you take out the unit and keep your truck stock then?

and why are you taking it out on him for a mistake you made?

take this as a lesson learned and do research before you buy!

you will be kicking yourself in the ass many times throughout life if you continue to buy aftermarket products without fully researching the product that you are buying...

like he has said below, this is not a common problem, most people know how to connect some wires and figure out a vacuum line..

if you had done your research, you would have bought the product right for your vehicle's setup and wouldn't have this issue to begin with.

i've bought product from URD in the past and i have had adequate help from gadget with the issues that i have had.

i had an issue with a fuel pump that i had purchased from him recently, but he was very helpful in trying to problem solve my issue. we had talked about many different possibilities and in the end i went back to an oem fuel pump. turned out that a missing hoses clamp might have caused a hose to pop off causing a loss in fuel pressure from the pump.

but you talk about how you think he is talking your character down...i think you're doing that quite well on your own.

it is not his responsibility to baby you through your problems. you are expected to be a knowledgeable buyer in this market.

just remember, you always had the option to return to the stock setup at anytime while you figured this out, so your truck being dead falls back on your shoulders.

OMG, do i really want to buy into this? If the URD MaF Cal. mostly effects the open loop side of the EcM....is it worth all the cutting it takes to install? I was hoping that it would help tune the closed loop side of operation..since i spend most of my time driving in town and don't need to gun it all the time, although its fun to put a few black marks down.
Im looking to improve mpg, what i've read and have seen for myself is that the MaF is
very picky, it don't like upgrades with out more tuning...A simple drop in air filter makes it go rich and i lose more bottom end torque.
The stock toyota air filter works the best for torque and mpg..but i would like better throttle response through the rpm's.
I'm really not sure I'm interested in CAI, maybe a cat-back system... Money is more of an issue also time..(women).

So is this MAF CAL. gonna work for a stock set up? is it worth the time and effort of cut and chop of my wire harness..?
I will admit i use the double tap of the accelerator pedal method to fool the ecm into going full power. Its got to do with the ETPS, when u softly push the gas pedal the ecm adjusts the torque converter percentage up until u hit a cetain rpm and then it unlocks the torque converter to give u full acceleration .
when you double tap it allows full acceleration with out the torque lag.

Sorry, not so well off at explaining ecm stuff.. So if you know what the hell im talking about..please jump in and explain.. i have problems with putting words down on paper to make them sound like i know what im talking about..

OP, great post. I just got a used MAF but have an 08 Taco. Just curious, do you have more pics of each wire set up? How do you which way the wire is going to the ECO or to the sensor for green and purple wires (I haven't broken it apart yet, waiting on shipping)?

    .
I still stand by URD's products, sorry this guy had all this trouble but company's live and die on customer's opinions. This is the first time I have heard of anyone having a problem with this product. I have it in my truck and it does fine.

Abotu to install the URD MAF. Does the yellow/green wire connect to anything? Didn't see it in the instructions?

I had a nearly identical experience with Gadget while trying to install my URD MAF cal. Slow and vague responses, and phone calls where Gadget was seemingly easily frustrated. After several emails, and pictures sent of what I'd done he realized he sent me the wrong install instructions.. I was emailed the proper set about an hour later and I was good to go by that evening. Luckily I wasn't dead in the water, I uninstalled it and drove around for a week with it all exposed and taped up. Once everything was right and working I soldered the wires and clamped my vacuum line.
I understand it takes some trial and error and patience with these kind of products and mods, but I too felt there was alot lacking in the customer service dept of URD. Overall, I can't say I feel a difference after the install. I'd try remapping it with the included software, but the connection on the MAF cal is old school ps1 9 pin wiring or something, not USB or fire wire, or anything current and accessable. So it is what it is...

That's true, I know life happens and we can't all get rock star service all the time. In fact if things play out right financially, I'd like to get one of their Rotrex supercharger kits. I haven't written URD off, I just think their tech support side could benefit by expanding their resources. Like the other guy said, post up instructions or a write up on the site.. I check it all the time, and it rarely changes. But then again I don't know the details about how extensive their operations are..

I know URD is in the process of moving locations. That may be part of the issue.

Can anyone help me with the software? I can't get the computer to recognize the MAF. Does it need to be installed in the truck with power to load a map to it?

I just bought one of these and i have a question or two before i start cutting into my wires. So for the first 4 connections your just connecting the URD wires to the existing ones and for E and F your bypassing the original wire and replacing it with the URD??
