Yes, but the Americans that dont have health insurance, are still treated for their injuries without having to pay. There are some fucked up things, like what Mikesdoublecab is going thru, that if you dont qualify for the "aid", and dont have insurance, then you get caught up in red tape, and treatment can suffer. Sadly, i dont think any system is perfect.

our system is by no means perfect either, treatment may not always be as quick as possible but you will get treatment and you won't get a bill when it's done.

Full time military, so no payments. And I rarely use the base clinic because they suck.

Back to my normal night shift schedule; 10PM to 7AM AK Standard Time.

No missions tonight, but working on implementing a new load planning computer system...taking a break to eat something.

Sounds like school is going well for you...any job prospects, or does the union have things locked up...how does that work there (union vs non-union)? What are the pros and cons? Just curious...

I've never worked in a unionized area. So far I haven't found anything but a friend at school has hooked me up with a possible lead. All I can say about the unions around here, from what I have seen, are sub par quality of work. It's disgusting the shit they get away with.

My brother inlaw is getting into the trade and is going the union route, so far in the last 8 months they have given him 3 days of work (but he doesn't qualify for any of the benefits of the union because you have to have 90 days of work before you get them).

Obviously with the union route you get the benefits (if they give you work) since most non union employers don't have benefits, besides that I really don't see a benefit of joining the union

 ...on a possible lead; like most jobs, networking is critical--you never know where the right lead will come from.

 3 days work in 8 months...WTH? Is the construction biz that slow there? Or are the unions like a "good ole boys club"...some get taken care of while others suffer because they aren't "in"?

Since Canada has universal health care (right term?), what kind of benefits are we talking about the union providing?

My wife's uncle has been a union pipe fitter for 25+ years, he gets laid off on a fairly regular basis so I don't know what the problem is with them.

The government has reduced coverages for a lot of stuff over the years, dental is a big one (minimal coverage if any), chiropractors no longer an essential service, and a certain things that are not considered life threatening or harmful are no longer covered (for example if you have a cyst on say your arm and they determine it's not cancerous, they won't cover the removal - consider it cosmetic surgery, which it is) - but it used to be covered.

Dental is the big one for most people, then drug coverage - our healthcare covers the majority of generic brands but if your medication is a brand name (as in most brands of birth control), then you only get partial coverage and have to pay the remainder.

For me though, that stuff doesn't really matter since I am a status aboriginal I have pretty good coverage (dental coverage, eye, most medications)
