So my truck went in for it's frame to be sprayed, on march 6th at 7 am they said they would have it for three to four days, they called me on the seventh which was a day after I brought it in and said it was done, the frame was drippig with the spray, all wet, once I got home I examined further and some of it they missed completely, they got it all over my paint on the wheel wells, completely shit job , I called Toyota head quarters and complained and they said someone will call me in three days, anyone else have this problem? I'm looking for some compensation

I wouldn't trust Toyota with a oil change so no way in hell would I let them paint my frame.

buy back an 03 Tacoma for a shitty frame spray...yea that's not gonna happen.

Stupid question but how could one possible prep a frame and spray in the same day?

All they did was cover your rust so it will not be seen until you have holes in your frame

sorry to hear it OP.. The Dealership that did my spray did a very thorough and clean job, I was very happy. I picked it up after about 30hrs, the spray was not "wet" but was still a lil tacky. Now 2+ months later it has solidified nicely, (though still not hard)

I see you are in NY, and have heard that NY just approved the spray again for the Tacomas; is it possible that this particular dealership was.. "out of practice" IDK just puttin that out there..

They would not have bought it back anyhow. The 2001-2004 they do a total frame swap.

FWIW, when my friend bought his Tundra he had it under-coated by Toyota. His has more rust on the rear end, driveshaft and underneath it than mine (non-undercoated) and they over-sprayed his shocks and quite a bit of other stuff...and they had it completed within 6hrs of him dropping it off. Even better, they claimed it had to be done somewhere in Des Moines (about 186 miles from the Quad Cities).

My co-worker had his 2002 Tacoma frame sprayed by Toyota, it didn't work and they later replaced his frame.

I got mine done because it was FREE, the dealership was 2 miles from my house, and I didn't personally have the tools/space/time that was required to do it myself :)

I'm happy I had it done; and if it fails... they replace it, so win win

OP... what part of ny are you in and what dealer???

They dont really have any 'training' in doing the spray. They send someone to a class thats more a safety OSHA type class.

They are suppose to scale off all the rust on the frame then spray it down. If I remember right they are suppose to have a couple days of just sitting and curing but alot of places are about the numbers so the faster they can get them in and out the more cars they can bring in, which brings more money. Dealers have become more focused on quantity of cars not quality of work. I've seen a big difference in just the past couple of years

It's an update paid by Toyota to the dealers. It's for '01-04's.

Exactly, Don't leave the frame prep to the dealer, if they can hide something with a spray they will. Then if water is trapped between the frame and the CRT it becomes a ticking time-bomb that won't go off until Toyota is in the clear,15 years.

What? If they do the Tundra frames like they do on the Tacoma, then the rusty rear end and driveshaft wouldnt be coated anyway. If he just had a general undercoating, then its supposed to be oversprayed all over everything, covering the entire underbody.

Toyota is in the clear anyway. They didnt have to do anything to start with.

How much does it cost for a frame spray ? is this the black tary stuff they spray on the bottom ? i am thinking of getting it done. I already have blacks tuff on the bottom from the previous owner. But i don't know how long ago it was done.

    Mine is a 2003 3.4 Double Cab 4x4

My frame was done in 09 and is now in for a frame replacement. Talked to the service tech and he said the first round of sprays were a ridgid type that hardened. This tended to crack over time and fail. The newer coating stays tacky and flexes with the frame.
I have the use of a 2012 Rav now until my new frame is installed. What other company does this....none.

Gotta take my Yota in to have it all done. I looked up dealer records on Toyota's website and see my truck was done by the original owner back in 2010, it passed the inspection (obviously) and they sprayed the frame. Will be interested to see how my experience goes.
