    I just got a 2001 pre runner with 183000 miles in it . Its run great ,but compare with others in here the milage is horrible ,i get around 15 miles per gallon mostly highway and i drive 50 miles for work each way ,so I have few options.Replace the tires with smaller ones,get a used engine with less mileage,or do a head work get some extra horses that will move the tires with out sacrificing on gas . I read an article while back in 4x4 magazine that they bought a tacoma great running condition and they decide to do a head work and after that the truck was running a lot better.I had done everything possible tires hard as a rock all fluids are synthetic ,new spark plugs ,injectors cleaning, gas treatment and nothing.and my last resort sell the truck and get a new one with less mileage. any advice? thanks

    Are you adding 3.4% to your ODO reading, then subtracting the gallons used?

    Add 3.4% to the ODO reading, then divide the number of corrected miles, by the amount of fuel you are using.

    Does that work for 285/75/16 as well? The adding 3.4%? I usually just add 1extra mpg to what fully says. So, if it says 16.5 I say 17.5?

    use the tire calculator to find out how much larger the current tire is, vs. the OEM one. 32's are around 3.4% (or so), while 33's are around 7.6% (or so) larger.

    even with the 3.4 that only add me 10 miles from the odo reading .Still sucks on MPG.

    well after numbers and keeping track of the milage and gas . I end up with 18.5 mpg mix driving about 60 % highway and 40% city.
